Critiques

Praise for Michael Robotham's writing:
"Will have you turning the pages compulsively." ( The Times)
"Robotham doesn't just make me scared for his characters, he makes my heart ache for them." (Linwood Barclay)
"Superbly exciting...a terrific read." ( Guardian)
" Life or Death is a nerve-shredding thriller with the heart and soul so often missing from lesser crime and suspense novels. I couldn't stop reading, yet I didn't want Audie's story to end. Robotham is an absolute master." (Stephen King)

What a great book!

Love each minuto of it, it kept me on edge, feeling sorry for Agatha and hating her at the same time. First book I got from M.R. And definitely not the last!

Suspenseful Family Drama

A suspenseful family drama about motherhood, paternity, families, infidelity, abuse, and mental illness. The secrets she keeps is the story of two women whose lives come into contact with devastating consequences. It was well plotted and well written with engaging characters, although the women seemed too complex and unstable, while the men too gullible and easily manipulared. It reminded me of other similar themed novels I've read recently. It's told from two points of view. Especially for lovers of psychological thrillers. The profiler was my favourite character. I loved the dramatic reading.

*HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT*

I love Michael Robotham. But, I've finished up feeling very flat. I'm not a fan of books where the characters are speaking for themselves.

Aside from that, the storyline was very boring and I've fast forwarded through half of it. But listening to the end. It got better about four hours from the end.

The narrator, Lucy Price-Lewis is okay for a woman narrator. Says things as they are and doesn't use the soft feely nicey tone of voice as most women do.

Would I spend the money if I knew it was written like this - no.

Captivating

I had listened to most of Michael Robotham's detective novels in the past and liked them well enough - but this is something else! More reminiscent of Ruth Rendell's masterpieces, this suspense thriller takes us deep into the minds of two women whose lives intersect, with heartbreaking consequences.

One of the best books I have ever read

...errr I meant listened to. I loved it. I kept on thinking about the book when I wasn't listening to it and looking forward to when I would be able to continue. At times I would try to listen at work but then I would just stop because I always got interrupted and it annoyed me. I needed to better concentrate and listen again, when I was alone. That's how much I was into this book! 😂

Brilliantly narrated

Lucy Price-Lewis is a fantastic narrator. She gets everything right including the pace and the accents (which I'm quite fussy about). The story is well written and enthralling. Overall a great companion for the daily commute.

Meh

It had its moments, but the most interesting plot points were kind of rushed over. The psychology of the main characters, and the reasoning behind their actions were hinted at and then never followed up. The characters themselves weren’t very consistent with their personalities, crazy one moment, rational the next; or understanding and then ignorant. The narration took some getting used to because of the odd British accent, but I did really like the way she impersonated the different characters and brought them to life. I wouldn’t really recommend this book overall.
