    Description

Featured title on PBS’s The Great American Read in 2018

In the wealthy and vain hedonist Dorian Gray, London painter Basil Hallward has found his muse. Only when the portrait of Dorian begins to age, while the man himself remains untouched by time, do they realize they may have made a deal with the devil.

Oscar Wilde’s only novel takes a witty, philosophical, and harrowing look at our obsession with youth and the price we pay for it.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Picture of Dorian Gray, this edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

    Fantastic Narration!

The narrator of this tale was IDEAL. I loved all the voices of the characters and the emotion brought into the story by the performer.

    Cool

Tried reading this. Couldn't. Listened through the entirety of the audio book in two days. I knew I was invested 30 minutes in. Got goose bumps at the end.

    A Wilde classic!

Are good and evil inherent or learned, can a person who does terrible things still be good, and is getting old really that bad?

Vintage Wilde, dry satire on late 19th Century

Michael Page's narration was a joy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Henry. The devil incarnate.

Which character – as performed by Michael Page – was your favorite?

    Henry

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Be careful what you wish for.

    One of my favorite Wildes

I do like a good bedtime story. The classic tale well read by Michael Page, although he does need to decide if he's going to use British or American pronunciations. i. e. The Brits don't say the word "valet" with a French pronunciation as we do in the States. Of the many versions available this is one of the better.

    Great Story

It can get a bit slow at times but it's a great story! A little flowery but thoughtful. The narrator is terrific. You can just lay around and hear a tale and picture the characters.

    FUN

Oscar Wilde has a way with words. This was the first book I ever read by him and its just so much fun. I like the characters, I like the dialogue, I like pacing. And the narrator is also good. If you've never read anything by Oscar Wilde, this is a good place to start.

    just not my book

I've tried a few times to listen to this book and never got past the sixth chapter. I know I haven't given it a full chance, and will probably come back to it later, but i am frustrated by it and feel, when i listen to it, that I am being given poor advice by an overconfident, pretentious nitwit. The character of dorian feels like a sounding board for his "wise" patron rather than a full character himself. It is chalk full of bad advice too and pithy statements that encourage the most shallow ways of life. I loved the importance of being ernest, and maybe it's just me this time, but i haven't been able to stick with this book so far.

    A Masterpiece

A simply brilliant piece of literature - witty, entertaining and eminently quotable from start to finish.

its reasonable that it became a classic

It is a deep Story. quite boring at some points but very interesting and kind of thrilling at some others. it is an opportunity to think about life and concern about the value of beauty in the World.
