    Description

Number one New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Laurens concludes the tales of the Cavanaugh siblings with the riveting story of the youngest brother and his search for a family of his own.

The scion of a noble house brought low by a storm and the lady who nurses him back to health strive to unravel a web of deception that threatens her family and forces them to fight for what they hold most dear - family, each other, and love.

Lord Godfrey Cavanaugh has no thoughts of marrying as he drives into North Yorkshire on a plum commission for the National Gallery to authenticate a Renaissance painting the gallery wishes to purchase. Then a snowstorm sweeps in, and Godfrey barely manages to haul himself, his groom, and his horses to their destination.

Elinor Hinckley, eldest daughter of Hinckley Hall, stalwart defender of the family, right arm to her invalid father, and established spinster, knows full well how much her family has riding on the sale of the painting and throws herself into nursing the initially delirious gentleman who holds her family’s future in his hands.

But Godfrey proves to be a far from easy patient. Through Ellie’s and her siblings’ efforts to keep him entertained and abed, Godfrey grows to know the family, appreciating and ultimately being drawn into family life of a sort he’s never known.

Eventually, to everyone’s relief, he recovers sufficiently to assess the painting - only to discover that nothing is as it seems.

Someone has plans - someone other than the Hinckleys - but who is pulling the strings is a mystery that Godfrey and Ellie find near-impossible to solve. Every suspect proves to have perfectly understandable, albeit hidden reasons for their behavior.

Until the villain, panicked by their inquiries, strikes - directly at them - and forces them both to acknowledge what has grown to be the most important thing in their lives. Together they battle to save not just themselves, not just her family, but their futures. Hers, his, and theirs.

    Another unique story line

I’ve almost read every SL book and yet she hasn’t run out of plot twists and premises to make each one interesting. Yes, there are some draggy parts with too much introspection, and a heavy dose of mush at the end, but in general I liked it. Justin Hill is one of the better readers.
Ties up the Cavanaugh series nicely. Definitely best to read the others first.
She really needs an editor who has a grip on English grammar. As a stickler, I often flinch at her ignorance of objective case pronouns and gerunds. Just saying...

    Fantastic

It’s always a pleasure revisiting the Cavenaugh and Cynster families and this book did not disappoint.

Good Story line and fun mystery

I enjoy the authors cross over of characters and families from her others books. Although I must admit I'm a sucker for happily ever afters and her portrayal of good and evil is very transparent. It's still a fun and easy story.

AUTHOR'S MORAL COMPASS IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED!

1: The narration was absolutely fabulous. The hero sounds exactly like Russel Crow (Master and Commander).
Justin Hill could make the phone book interesting. So I kept listening, even though it is so obvious who the bad guy is almost from the beginning. The mystery is somewhat interesting. BUT....

2:The author's moral compass is atrocious! (Spoiler Alert) The Hero goes to church with the family, hoping God will help him with his moral dilemma. But later, when they figure out who the bad guy is and that he is a raving, murderous psychopath, their remedy is not justice. Oh NO! As long as the family can get "them" far enough away that "they" can't harm anyone the family knows, it's just fine to put "them" in a position to victimize anyone else. That way the family can avoid any potential scandal. Fair Weather Christian rationalization at it's finest!

3: Amazon needs to work on its .guideline labels. If a book is going to have gratuitous graphic sex, then "Regency"
    "Historical" isn't enough.

4: Thank Amazon for the software that allows for faster speed adjustments and fast-forward. Otherwise I would never have finished this book. I'm glad I didn't spend a credit on this book, and I never would have spent the time actually reading it. But, again, Justin Hill !

    Don’t bother

    Trite, paper-thin plot.
    Over wrought narration.
And writing desperately in need of a copy editor.

    Save your ears.

    To deep of a voice

It was just a unnerving for me to listen to the deep deep voice, he sounded a bit constipated.

    Slow

The book is sloooow and at times tedious with details. I’m not a fan of the narrator for female voices often distracting from the story. Although the richness of his voice did fit with other male characters.

    Good

The story line is good- love, mystery, violence. I had a hard time with the sex… it seemed very pushed- like you had to get it in to make the quota It didn’t flow well into the story
