Columbine Bellounds is a young girl who is becoming a woman in her beloved Colorado. Adopted as a child by rancher Bill Bellounds, Columbine is torn between loyalty to her foster father's wishes and her own emerging desires. Should she please her foster dad by marrying his son, Buster Jack, who has always been a lad of weak character, or should she acknowledge her own feelings for a young cowboy, Wilson Moore? Helping her sort through these decisions is a mysterious rider, "Hell-Bent" Wade, whose gentle, understanding manner gives little hint of his gun-fighter past. Zane Grey mixes beautiful natural descriptions with towering characters rooted in their time to make a story set in the old West still resonant today.
