À propos de ce contenu audio
The crow hissed: "Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t cut your throat here and now. One single damn reason."
The prince froze with fear and said nothing. At last, his behavior was logical. His facial features had lost any order. Shivering, he closed his eyes in expectation of certain death.
But then there was a whispering. "Could there be three reasons maybe?" She suppressed the reflex to laugh—she hadn’t laughed aloud for years and was not sure if the muscles needed were even still functioning. Despite herself, she responded: "One good reason is sufficient, but alright, you have exactly three attempts."
Let’s see if the smartarse has anything else up his sleeve.
In the heart of the medieval world, Prince Karek crosses paths with a professional murderess—an encounter that could alter the kingdom for all time. Yet her contract specifies assassinating none other than Prince Karek himself.

What a delight! As you can never know how good the novel will be from a five-minute preview and the tone of the actor’s voice, you have to count on the first few exchanges that set the scene, and in the Murderess Crow, you get the immediate impression of a spoilt prince, but not a brat, and a servant who knows how to banter with royalty. Right from the start, the voice actor, Daniel Wisniewski, hits the nail on the head with just the right voices for the first two characters, and throughout the story, he continues to deliver; each new character is portrayed with realism and depth, and although he is American, Wisniewski carries off an English accent with real conviction. (In fact, the only thing that gives away his US origins is the pronunciation of a handful of words that makes me, a Brit, smile.)
The story follows Karek’s adventure and the plot is one of the most satisfying that I have read. The characters evolve slowly through the different scenes, which is fine because it’s their interaction with each other that is the most amusing. The crow, in particular, is a captivating character whose view of life, born of a cruel childhood, is complex in its simplicity (you need to listen to her to understand what I mean!) and the main villain is not only disgusting in description but even more so in his deeds.
The twists and turns in the story are timed to perfection and catch you by surprise, so they are thoroughly entertaining and engaging right up to the end.
The end of the novel is not an explosion of action and fighting, as is often the case of fantasy novels, but more a knot of mysteries and questions that leave you wanting more. Curiously, by the end, you’ll find yourself liking this prince.
So, don’t hesitate. Listen and enjoy. The following two novels in the series are just as entertaining.
Just a word of warning: if you're looking for masses of magic and monsters, you won't find it here. You'll find more in the other books in the series, but honestly, the novel is a real joy.
Well done, Sam Feuerbach and Daniel Wisniewski!
A great listen on the way to work!
