Twelve-year-old Alex thinks he knows the night sky, but he’s about to discover one of its oldest secrets. When a strange, green meteorite crashes near his home, it doesn't bring space rocks—it brings a message from the past and a mystery that is out of this world.
Inside the meteorite is a bronze eagle, an ancient Roman artifact that pulls Alex and his skeptical younger sister, Lily, on an impossible journey to the Red Planet. There, beneath the crimson dust and butterscotch skies, they discover the impossible: a hidden city, Nova Roma, built by the legendary Ninth Legion of Rome, who vanished from the mists of Scotland two thousand years ago and were transported to Mars.
But the magnificent city is dying. Its power source is failing, and only "children from the Blue Star" can reignite the Heart of Mars. Guided by a ghostly centurion and armed with courage, Alex and Lily must journey across a breathtaking and dangerous landscape, facing robotic monsters and uncovering ancient Martian secrets. Can two kids from Earth succeed where Roman legionaries have failed and save the last bastion of a lost empire? Their adventure is a race against time, a test of bravery, and a promise written in the stars.
