THE BRILLIANT NEW PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE PERFECT GIRLFRIEND

How far would you go to fulfil a promise to your oldest friend?

Nina, in the final days of her illness, asks her best friend Marie to look after her family when she's gone. And Marie does everything she can to step into Nina's shoes after her friend's tragic death. She tries to do the best by Nina, tries to be there for Nina's young children, tries to support Nina's grieving husband, tries to keep their lives on track despite their terrible loss.

But when Marie discovers a dark secret that Nina had kept concealed, she is forced to confront the past, and those shared secrets come back to haunt her too.

Tense, heart-breaking and utterly gripping, The Last Wife explores the real nature of love and friendship - and just how fragile every relationship can be in the face of the secrets we hide from each other.

Taut and tense from the first page to the closing paragraphs - a touching tale that really hit home
Fast-moving and fun, with an obsessive, Machiavellian, yet enjoyably self-aware narrator
If you enjoyed The Perfect Girlfriend you'll love The Last Wife - another fabulously dark central character with a great twisty plot
Such a twisty ride! You are going to love this
Karen Hamilton has a rare gift for character quite unlike other writers. She gets beneath the skin of damaged, fragile and obsessive women in a way that is utterly compelling. I could not tear myself away as Marie claimed the life of her dead friend Nina with devastating consequences. This is a five-star, one-sitting read
A wonderfully twisted female protagonist
This dramatic psychological thriller makes you want to carry on reading
An addictive domestic thriller that will keep you guessing to the end
A dramatic and intense psychological read

It might be not my kind of books. I read it to the end within a few days, but I often fell asleep while reading. Not a tiny bit of humor, let alone a appealing description of the surroundings, but an introspective depressed mood, a monotonous monologue, very little dialogue. A sort of hermetic psycho-thriller, more psycho than thriller. It's still a good book, well written and excellent performed by Lucy Paterson. I am impressed by the flow that results of it, the construction of intrigues and secrets that Karen Hamilton patiently spun out. Perhaps it had to be that way so that the reader could deeply experience the mind of another person, in this case of Mary - from the inside, as far as I can tell as a non-English speaker.
What would we be able to do to protect our beloved ones - or to save a dream?

Excellent performed by Lucy Paterson
