Description
Return to the world of The Bridge Kingdom in this sensuous fantasy full of romance and intrigue that is perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Silver Flames.
A soldier raised as heir to an empire, Zarrah is motivated by two truths. The first is that the Veliant family murdered her mother. And the second is that her pursuit of vengeance will put every last one of them in their graves.
The Endless War between Maridrina and Valcotta has raged for generations, leaving thousands of Zarrah’s people dead and countless more orphaned. So when she’s given command of the contested city of Nerastis, Zarrah is prepared to do whatever it takes to destroy the Maridrinian forces who oppose her. And to kill the Veliant prince who leads them.
Yet a chance encounter with an anonymous, and handsome, Maridrinian causes Zarrah to question whether the violence she’s perpetrated is justice or a crime. And as she continues to meet the nameless man each night, she finds common ground - and fiery passion - in his arms.
But when identities are revealed, Zarrah must decide whether to embrace a chance at peace...or march to the drums of war.

HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK?
The first two books were amazing enough.. but I must admit this one was even better. The only thing I regret was reading the other too long ago because I didn't remember all of it and I would've like to piece the pieces of the puzzle better. The way Danielle created this amazing intricate world, and weaved this story into the last one is pure talent. The writing style impeccable for my taste, and both characters so full of colour and depth you could not help but fall in love with both of them.
The fact that for once the heroine is the brave, fighting one and the hero is the "nerdy" tactical one is such a breath of fresh air. Their encounters were so special, and the spice was just ✨on point✨, just a couple of scenes but very well done. I just regret that, although the narrators were really good most of the time, they were not suited for "sensual" talk in my opinion. Other than that I really have no complaints, except the fact that I'll have to wait who knows how long to know what's going to happen to my lovelies. Thank you Danielle, thank you Audible ❤️✨

A disappointing change but still good
3.5
I’ll start off by saying that I still really enjoyed reading this book. Even though I had a lot of issues with it. My biggest complaint is going to be the change from romance to sex. Yes the other books had some sex scenes in them, but overall the plot and character development was front and center. I would say in this book it switched. Even though there weren’t technically that many actual sex scenes, it was much more heavily focused on blunt sexual thoughts and activities… And for me it was lacking in what made the other two so good…a great romance and a great storyline. The second half of this book definitely got a lot better because it really shifted into the actual story. And I was completely sucked in when that happened.
Things I liked:
- The way this story overlapped with the original two books. It was really fun to see everything play out from a completely different angle. Part of me wishes I had reread the other books first, but another part of me is glad I didn’t because those reveals were compelling all over again.
-The writing style is addictive and it was very easy to fly through the book.
-Zarrah was a great character and pretty multi dimensional. I loved her growth throughout the book.
-The female narrator of the audiobooks was fantastic. I wish she would’ve just read the whole thing.
-The overall storyline. When the story was focused on moving the plot forward, I really enjoyed it. I felt like it was interesting without being too complex and wordy. There were lots of details and twists and turns without it being hard to follow. The writing is just pretty addictive.
Things I didn’t like:
-The almost instalove. They just fell real hard real fast and it went from 0 to 60 in no time. I just really really prefer a little more buildup and tension.
-The Uber focus on sexual thoughts in the strangest and most awkward times. (Spoilers) When someone is captured and their life is possibly on the line, it seems like you would care more about their safety and wanting to help them, than wishing that they were there so you could bury your …. in them. (End spoilers) This was a theme throughout the book and I swear the work c*ck was used no less than 20 times. (maybe it just felt like it). It’s just annoying when authors start a series with one thing, and gain an audience, and then they switch it to something else. Especially when it seemed forced, (and I would guess incredibly influenced by “spicy booktok”). At least it was annoying for me.
-Kerris (sp?) 😬 To be honest I had a love/hate relationship with him. He was honestly so annoying at times and so frustrating. It probably didn’t help that the male narrator’s voice was not great. I’m sure he will do some growing in the next installment, but geez he is not an easy guy to root for.
-And while we’re on the subject, the male narrator of the audiobook. I swear he sounded like he was announcing a NASCAR race. Which got super awkward when he was *announcing* the sex scenes. 😂😂😂 I usually like a female and male narrator when there are female and male POVs, but this really would’ve been better with just her… or a different guy.
-And another thing with the audiobook. This was produced by audible, so I really did expect it to be a little bit better. It had sound effects, but they were so random and some of them were so awkward. Like someone fell off a building and it just kept making the squishing sound over and over. It was so cringy. And at the beginning of each chapter it sounded like it was raining. Like why? How does that make any sense? Then it would just randomly throw a noise in here and there. It was just weird.
OVERALL
I did enjoy the book. I really do like the series as a whole. And I will be continuing it. I’m just a little disappointed.

Fabulous
The narrators were fire, the story was engrossing, I can’t wait for the sequel. It was new adult so a little steamy.

Distracting “WWII documentary” narration style
Performance: Summer Morton, the voice actor who did Zarrah’s chapters, was excellent!
But the male voice actor.. sounded like was narrating a WWII documentary. I literally LOL’d so many times because his news anchor narration made the characters sound so weird, and all the things they said sounded stupid as hell. 😂
Story: Felt a little like instalove. Kinda boring. Definitely not as good as Lara/Aren’s.

I LOVE THIS BOOK
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. The best next installment to the bridge kingdom! Keris is my newest bookish love and I cannot wait to see the rest of this adventure! Danielle Jensen just keeps writing some of the best action and adventure fantasy books out there

Wonderful Continuation
I very much enjoyed hearing Keris and Zarrah's story and learning more about the world DLJ built. This might be my favorite of the 3 books so far! Can't wait to hear the rest of their story.
Both narrorators were good but maybe not who I would of cast for these parts.

R rated hallmark
Trying to make a gone with the wind love tragedy and failing miserably. The narration was adequate but poorly produced. They did a disservice by having the narrators switch back and forth but not switching male and female roles.

Too confusing
The book went side ways several times. I had to back track to finish figure out what was going on. The whining of H became annoying and then the books unfinished ending setting up the next book. If you’ve read the whole series and devote the mental energy to be alert and not relax into the story this is a grand book for you. I feel like I wasted 9 hours. Yes kept hoping it would get better.

50/50 the first two books where better.
In this book was a bit much romance, felt at times it took up half the story.
I preferred the first two books, but wanting to know what would happen in the third I listen until the end.
The story was mostly a reflection to book 1&2 just from other perspectives, but for me it was something new since I only know this from screen plays.

good narrators but lackluster story
i like how the story ties in with the previous book but i was not waiting on a graphic love story. the author attempted some sexscenes but they are not well written and there doesn't seem to be a different word in their vocabulary besides "cock"
i liked the story with all the intrigue but could have gona without the sexlife

Can't wait for the next!
I loved this book more then I thought I would. Some parts are repetitions from the previous books but that didn't bother me because it is from another perspective. I loved that through Kerres and Zarrah we also got more information on Lara and Aren. Please bring out #4 soon!!

Totally worth it!
I was right about this book maybe being my favorite in the series. I loved Zarrah and Keris, they have a special dinamic. Both are deeply trapped in the expectations that come with their title of throne heirs. And both have to choose whom to trust. Their meetings feel so special and private.
The third book makes more room for the side characters, like Coralin and the harem, and involves their motivations, which makes the world building so much richer. Now I see the map of relationships and hate between the kingdoms and can finally dive into the world.
Can't await the next book to follow!

Good spice, Unsatisfying Plot
The Spice in this book is way better than in the first two and I'd wanted to give it five stars for that. The plot is good and has a few nice twists. But the amount of times I wanted to slap the characters in the face for their stupidity and the unsatisfying end makes me give three stars. This really is an author that likes to torture her readers and I want to have fun while reading, not being tortured.

4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
To understand this story you should first read the first two (The Bridge Kingdom and Traitor Queen) of this series because although we are following other characters here, the events are parallel to the events in The Traitor Queen. After we got to know both characters we finally get the story of Zarrah and Keris. Both characters are just from the war of Valcotta and Madrinah and both have tasks that are both not allowed to survive. Everything changes when the two get to know each other and fall in love. I liked Zarrah as a character even if she was a bit blind, especially when it came to her aunt, because it seemed as if she didn't see what she was looking at, and there were moments when she didn't like her attitude, but I still liked her as a character and that too she is a fighter. Keris, on the other hand, is different from what you would expect but when he meets Zarrah you only see the real me. As a character I liked him but here I sometimes found him too superficial, especially when it comes to his country and how he sees the people around him, I'm curious how he will react in the second part and what he will show of himself. The story was really good and I also liked that there was more romance in there and I really liked the two of them together. All in all, I found it good again, both romance and fantasy in there, even if they can't get to Lara and Aren for me, they were still an interesting couple and I'm curious what else awaits us with them.
