Description

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx's definitive and best-selling memoir on drug addiction is now available on audio for the first time, read by Nikki Sixx! This shocking, gripping, and at times darkly hilarious memoir explores Nikki's yearlong war with a vicious heroin addiction. Now more than ever, with opioid addiction ravaging our country and rising by 20 percent in the past year alone, Nikki's story of both his descent into drug-addled decay and subsequent recovery and transition into a rehabilitation advocate is now more relevant than ever.

When Mötley Crüe was at the height of its fame, there wasn't any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't do. He spent days - sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers - in a coke and heroin-fueled daze.

The highs were high, and Nikki's journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions.

Here, Nikki shares the diary entries - some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre - of those dark times.

Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and surprisingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom - and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again.

Great to hear Nikki Sixx read his story.

This book will help anyone struggling with any form of drug addiction. The best book I have ever read on the subject. I had told my teens parts of the story. They won't be trying drugs any time soon.

What an awesome journey!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a true portrait of rock star excesses, as well as how far people who are addicted will drag themselves thorugh the much. As Nikki says... The dying is easy, It's the living that seems impossible when it's time to sober up!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heroin Diaries: 10 Year Anniversary Edition?

Hearing about Nikki coming to my hometown and the things he did there.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

That it was the author.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

What an inspiration. Nikki is one of my all time true hero's. I play bass, and too have kicked "THE" habit. I am forever in his debt. This book has helped me more than I could even explain sitting here writing an e book review!

So-So

Decent book and can be very entertaining at parts, but the female narrator's voice was painful to listen to, especially when she pretended to cry. I'd rather listen to nails being run down a chalkboard.

Inauthentic Nonsense

Motley Crue was not a good band, although I was a fan in the 80s until I was around 11 years old and began playing guitar and discovering bands that could play their instruments. But this "diary" isn't about Motley Crue. As a social worker with experience in addiction, I thought this book would be a worthwhile read. It wasn't. This book is further evidence that Nikki Sixx will do anything for money including retrofitting a diary that glorifies his horrendous conduct. The supposedly old passages are chock full of AA speak and pop psych drivel. The story is monotonous and whiney. He claims to be a heroin addict but seems to interchange heroin and coke. I don't know a single person dependent on opioids for whom cocaine wouldn't make withdrawal so much worse. None of this book rings true. If this was written as a retrospective and Sixx offered, or even gained, any insight, writing this would have been a worthwhile endeavor. Yet, even the reflective passages written in the early 2000s lack any depth or insight. "Junkie", which Sixx claims to be reading during this time, is a much more authentic account of an individual suffering with opioid use disorder.

As an aside, for all the excellent music and artists Sixx name-checked in this book, one would think that they would run off on his "art". They don't.

Eye opening

Any additional comments?

I've always like Motley Crue's music, but due to being born in the late 80's, I wasn't able to experience them when they were at their height. To me, Crue was Vince and Tommy. This book opened my eyes to the real wheel behind Motley Crue, and the demons that haunted (or hunted) him.

The journey Nikki takes in that year is amazing. I couldn't stop listening.

1st edition- a well read, 2nd- a awesome audible!

I really dislike reading but I love Nikki Sixx. My brother brought me the book and said "trust me and read it!" I was in my mid 30's and hadn't read a book since high school. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in less than a week.
Who would have known Nikki was going through this? I didn't and I also didn't think anybody could survive with such a crazy lifestyle.
I was estacted when I heard about the 10th anniversary edition and since we have bitchen apps that can read to us now...even better, Nikki can read to me! I might even listen to it again.

Must have...

So legit that Nikki SIxx narrates. Amazing and disturbing. Haunting but so worth it. I like to listen to it at bedtime and imagine I was there. The inside on Nikki's and Vanity's relationship is riveting.

One of the best biographies. Sad that it’s over. Would listen to it again. Nikki Sixx is a great reader, a good story teller. I’m going to miss him.
