À propos de ce contenu audio

The basis for Joseph L. Mankiewicz's cinematic romance starring Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison.

Burdened by debt after her husband's death, Lucy Muir insists on moving into the very cheap Gull Cottage in the quaint seaside village of Whitecliff, despite multiple warnings that the house is haunted. Upon discovering the rumors to be true, the young widow ends up forming a special companionship with the ghost of handsome former sea captain Daniel Gregg. Through the struggles of supporting her children, seeking out romance from the wrong places, and working to publish the captain's story as a book, Blood and Swash, Lucy finds in her secret relationship with Captain Gregg a comfort and blossoming love she never could have predicted.

Originally published in 1945, made into a movie in 1947, and later adapted into a television sitcom in 1968, this romantic tale explores how love can develop without boundaries, both in this life and beyond.

The story, THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR by R. A. Dick, is lovely and quaint, and sometimes mocks social behavior of English society in the 20th Century. Her brief description of the Afterlife also gently impresses itself upon the reader… Was the author psychic? At least she must had been an intuitive who appreciated Life in all its mysterious beauty, understanding It in a deep and unique way.

In the story, the character of Mrs. Muir grows from that of a young, impressionable widow to a strong and independent woman who learns to live her life on her own terms. Over the course of this lifetime, she learns to say NO to interference by others in her life. The Ghost of the Captain becomes her ally though at times he is a real thorn in her side. Mrs. Muir life lessons serve to make the reader nod in comprehension, and the seaworthy vocabulary leads the reader to chuckle.

The audiobook is a treat, and was read beautifully by Elizabeth Jasicki.

Lovely and Quaint, yet Deep and Unique.
