Description
Play a song for me....
Musicians are being murdered in New Orleans. But Arnie Watson apparently died by his own hand. When Tyler Anderson plays the saxophone he inherited from Arnie, a soldier and musician who died soon after his return, he believes he sees visions of his friend's life - and death. He becomes convinced Arnie was murdered and that the instrument had something to do with whatever happened, and with whatever's happening all over the city....
Tyler knows his theory sounds crazy to the police, so he approaches Danni Cafferty, hoping she and Michael Quinn will find out what the cops couldn't. Or wouldn't. After all, Cafferty and Quinn have become famous for solving unusual crimes.
They're partners in their personal lives, too. Quinn's a private investigator and Danni works with him. When they look into the case, they discover a secret lover of Arnie's and a history of jealousies and old hatreds that leads them back to the band Arnie once played with - and Tyler plays with now.
They discover that sometimes, for some people, the line between passion and obsession is hard to draw. Only in uncovering the truth can they hope to save others - and themselves - from the deadly hands of a killer.

Nice twist without as much paranormal
Great story kept my interest throughout. I loved the departure from the paranormal plot. Good to change things up.

story coulda been better
the story lacked the supernatural element I've come to expect from this series and it was a little disappointing. I was also going that Dani and Quinn would finally get together, sigh, maybe the next book

Love the Cafferty snd Quinn series
My favorites were Let the Dead Sleep and Waking the Dead - which was fabulous. This third installment wasn’t as strong but it’s hard to beat Waking the Dead. Lol. It seems as though she moved these to shorter story status which is sad. So many legends she could explore. But read all three of these books. Great narrator.

I'm getting bored with the Krewe of Hunters
I have read or listened to all the Krewe of Hunters series and they're almost the same. Just different locations and different male/female partners. The storyline is almost the same with the exception of this book. The paranormal was not as prevalent in this book but I found it dragged on and I couldn't wait for it to be over. Not because of the suspense but because I was so bored. Heather Graham has been one of my favorites for years but I think it's time to come up with something different. Stick with paranormal but retire the Krewe.

Great!
Another great book from Ms. Graham! I love the reader except for the whining parts...made me cringe at certain points throughout but otherwise great.

probably my least favorite so far
well, to start the story line was okay, but the narrator's attempt to sound like the character's, be it male or female, had a New Orleans accent killed it. plus, I kept getting annoyed at several of the character's attitudes towards others a lot. I quite listening several times for those reasons alone. this story line also seemed weak. I guessed the culprit about a fourth of the way into the book already and I was right. plus, I even guessed half the supposedly "shocking events". not the greatest book in my opinion at all.

What happened to this story Heather???
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I was just really looking forward to this story. Loved the other two Quinn and Cafferty books and the last book was EXCELLENT. Generally they center on a supernatural object which was hinted at but never showed up in this book. I was very disappointed.
Would you be willing to try another book from Heather Graham? Why or why not?
Generally I like her books and I am sure I will buy others but I hope she reworks her story line on this series
Did The Dead Play On inspire you to do anything?
No. Unlike in the last book where I actually did research
