In this groundbreaking audiobook, neuropsychology professor Chris Niebauer explains how after decades of research on the brain, Western science may have inadvertently confirmed a fundamental tenet of Buddhism: anatta, or the doctrine of "no self". Niebauer shows how findings in neuropsychology suggest that our sense of self is actually an illusion created by the left side of the brain and that it exists in the same way a mirage in the middle of the desert exists: as a thought rather than a thing.

Learning is the key to bettering your circumstances and becoming the person you want to be. Skills, information, and abilities will never come to you - it’s up to you to seek them out, and this audiobook shows you how to do so in the most effective and efficient manner.
Description
This is a bold book by James Altucher. He not only gives you a new map for the new financial landscape but he also has skin in the game. This is the first financial book in which the author reveals how he makes his own money.
We are living in an epic period of change, danger, and opportunity. The economy is crashing and booming every few years. People are getting fired and replaced by computers and Chinese workers. The stock market crashes with regularity. Every fix from the government makes things worse. The old world has been demolished, and people are desperate for answers.
James Altucher's The Choose Yourself Guide to Wealth contains those answers. This is the field guide to the new world we live in. You can play by the old rules and get left behind, or you can use these new ideas and become wealthy. This is not a book for the faint of heart. Listen at your own risk, because sometimes the truth is hard to take. But for those who are ready to hear, James provides an updated map of the new territory for generating wealth and freedom. This book is the eye opener of the century. It is the guide to building, keeping, and investing your money and breaking free from the chains of rusted, old thinking.

This Audiobook is not an Audiobook
I purchased this Audiobook because I expected it to be just that; a book in audio format. Unfortunately it was not that at all. The author chose to "read" the book himself, but instead formatted it more like a podcast - going off on rabbit-trails and then skipping entire sections. No, I am not kidding... he actually skipped reading an entire chapter and advised the listener to buy the actual book for that part. I'm sorry... I thought that's what I did when I got this audioBOOK.

This is not unabridged, and it's full of rambling.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This is labeled as unabridged, and I expected the full content of the book. Instead what I got was a rambling conversation including his wife Claudia. If I wanted to listen to James Altucher's podcast, then I would have done that instead of buying this book.
How could the performance have been better?
Read the actual book to the audience. Nothing pissed me off faster than glossing over a section and telling me I need to read the book for the details. I bought this audio book for those details.

I was let down
So after James last book I was excited. It was refreshing and I enjoyed it. This book was not what I expected. Good points but more rambling and less straight wealth talk. I also did not get into it and the two way conversations made it like a podcast not a book. Need to have something actionable and not stories.

COMMENTARY...NOT THE AUDIO-BOOK
The author barely reads the book. It is more of a commentary on his book chapter by chapter w/ a few skips. I would have appreciated the commentary if it was titled as a "COMMENTARY" and not as a book. Aside from that the book is rather good...

put a bullet in my ear
I liked reading the book, but this guy is terrible to listen to, and he's not reading the book, he's rambling on in and out of conversation with his piggy backer wife about the book. I'll stick to reading this one. Would have been great if it had been read by someone who is not James Altucher.

“Free is something you choose everyday”
This reading by the author was very conversational and I expect the written version had more content. That being said, once I got into the Altucher’s tone, I gained a lot of wisdom and perspective. I love the “idea practice” and I’ve already noticed that I’m thinking more clearly as a result. This book was different from most self development books as it didn’t just rephrase universal principles or give obvious advice, but actually offered a very outside the box and honest perspective of the changing world, in a mostly objective way. The quotes from this book felt authentic and useful and I found myself sharing ideas with good reception. I didn’t expect a step by step plan to become wealthy and really liked the abstract-ness that some reviewers mentioned, as I could apply it to my own situation and customize advice. Thanks for the helpful ideas James

Better than Choose Yourself
You should buy Choose Yourself first and this after. This goes into more detail regarding how to succeed financially but reinforces points from the first book. Both are valuable and worth listening to. I like the fact that the author reads his own book, thereby adding plots not included in the written version. Also makes the points hit home better.
