awful narrator

this book is required for school, and i was looking for an audiobook because i'm a slow reader with a deadline. but this narrator is horrible. i can't stand the frequent pauses that mean absolutely nothing. they don't emphasize anything and they just take up time. he's hard to understand as well. i am going to keep using this one because i don't want to buy another, but i'm very unhappy with it. i'm glad it was only $0.73.

Weird Cadence

Couldn't get beyond the first chapter. Narrator's voice was great but the cadence of his reading style was very strange and unnatural. Did not sound like he was telling the story so much as just mechanically reading it.

Should have listened to the sample longer before purchasing audio book.

pre-cell phone day kids, gasp!

This was on a list of books my friend challenged me to read. I have been meaning to read Twain for years so this was the kick in the butt I needed. It's a historical classic. I might have enjoyed it more if I had read it instead of listened to it because I couldn't tell if the narrator made the story slower than it needed to be or if it's actually that slow. Either way it is funny to read about kids' adventures in a non-digital era.

Unlistenable

Any additional comments?

Did anyone listen to this before it was published? If so, what were they thinking? The reader's mechanical cadence, odd pauses and weird emphases make this great novel almost unlistenable. It's as if the reader had learned English from a book or a machine and had never heard it actually spoken by humans. Considerable time and effort goes into a recording like this, so how did they neglect the most important part of the process; listening to the finished product? Wonderful story, awful narration.

Worst reader ever

I'm not sure this guy read the book before performing it. Disjointed and awful. Couldn't finish listening.

Worst narrator I've tried to listen to

I know from actually reading the book that the story is great. The narrator in this book is just plain awful and hard to listen to. I got 5 min in to it, and couldn't go any further.

Had to buy a new version.

Alan Munro's reading is absolutely horrible. He puts emphasis on the wrong words, pauses for no reason, couldn't follow the story. Just a waste of money.

Poor reader

Mark Twain went to great lengths to perfect the diction and accents of the characters. This reader does a poor job reproducing that.

Dragged Out

Would you try another book from Mark Twain and/or Alan Munro?

Mark Twain: AbsolutelyAlan Munro: Sorry, no

What did you like best about this story?

The story is great. Of course, it is one of the greatest American Classics. It is a beautiful historical narrative.

What didn’t you like about Alan Munro’s performance?

I felt that there were too many breaks in phrases. There were pauses where there clearly should not have been. Listening to it became tedious.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?

None
