    Description

    A Necromunda novel.

When full-scale gang war erupts between Houses Goliath and Escher, Brielle of the Wild Hydras finds herself on the run and desperate for revenge....

    Listen to it because....

Delve into the darkest reaches of the underhive in a tale of vengeance, ambition and gruesome deeds from Necromunda's underhive.

    The story....

In the polluted, sprawling hive cities of Necromunda, life is short. From the decadent heights of the Spire to the murderous deeps of the underhive, those on the climb must be bold and brutal, or face a violent end.

When the barbarous Fettnir, Goliath overlord of the Chemfall Butchers, turns his attention to Escher territory, the result is nothing short of a massacre.

Brielle of the Wild Hydras escapes the slaughter and is cast into the deepest levels of the underhive.

Determined to avenge her family, Brielle vows that she will end those responsible, but to reach Fettnir and the bounty hunter who murdered her mother, she must first survive...and the darkness is full of horrors.

Written by Justin D Hill. Running time 9 hours and 5 minutes. Narrated by Emma Noakes.

maybe my expectations were too high

Where to start other than the beginning? I felt the story started off excellent, got slow in the middle kinda lost its way entirely and then finished ok. Without giving too much away the middle chapters were a real chore tonget through. I have enjoyed Mr Hills shie and stories in this setting but this felt needlessly stretched out. sorry for gammer spelling typing this out on mobile.

get it for the beginning bits and the wonderfully descriptive setting.

Great trip into the bowels of Necromunda.

I was a little surprised to see folks saying that the protag is a Mary Sue - not sure that any bits of this story suggest she is. I will say this book has me in love with my Eschers and will be happily putting together a box in honor of the Wild Hydras.

Emma Noakes did a great job voicing. :>

    A Truly Grimdark Tale

Unpopular opinion. The vast majority of 40K...isn't Grimdark. Its more Heavy Metal Absurdism, especially whenever the Orks show up. But Terminal Overkill is genuinely grim dark, and appropriately so. It really goes into all the gross details of how bleak life would be in the lowest pits of a hive world, even for a skilled Escher warrior. The main character doesn't have any higher goals than survive, and make gain power. Despite the simple plot the book doesn't have you rooting for her the whole way through. The story drags in a few spots, making the final act feel a bit rushed, but I was still hooked the whole way through.

    Fodor's Guide to Necromunda

A great listen for those who already know, or are interested in, the Necromunda setting. If you aren't, how the hell did you even get here?

Excellent narration, and the main story, while entertaining, is really overshadowed by the richly detailed descriptions of the places and peoples of the underhive. Want to know what a fatberg fed by 10 billion people is like? Then this book is for you! Fits nicely with the new line of miniatures without being heavy handed and pays plenty of homage to oldhammer and the new apocrypha.

i wanted to read about Necrominda....and this was?

It was good not great. Brielle was a fun character (sidebar....what's with the badass female characters being named Brielle. This and Rogue Trader. I loved both characters)
The narrator did great, and I truly equated her voice with the characters. Which means they did good enough for me to forget about it being narrated.
The problems came from pacing. It let me know who the major players were and who the main characters in a way that built up the setting. A lot of the story just jumped forward in ways that felt incongruous with pacing in other parts of the book. Its still an interesting book but the jumps ahead would kind of leave cold to the characters. it did this just enough to make it hard to finish the book.

Oddly enough I am still interested in the follow up to this book that it alluded to. So it was good with small improvements the next book will be great.

    Amazing World Building

What makes this novel good is the attention to details of the underhive. How people live? What do they eat? The story is secondary in my opinion. it's decent, but not amazing.

    Narrator seals the deal

A very good story about life in the underhive, but made great by the storytelling. Ms Noakes was fabulous.

    Terrible

The worst 40k style book ever. I just finished sinners bounty with Kal Jericho and wanted to learn more about necromunda. This book is trash and the reading is sub par.

    Disgusting

First of all, i greatly enjoyed this book.
But: It also is by far the most digusting book ive listened to sofar.
I had a physical puke reflex atleast two times (i'm not joking).
The writing as well as the voice actor manage to convey both the (emotionally) disgusting power dynamics in the relationships of the down-hivers between each other (loads of psychological and physical abuse) as well as the (physically) disgusting terms of life (how people have to live, what they have to eat and drink, what they have to do to stay alive, etc.), in a manner that makes it almost feel like you are experiencing it yourself.
In other words the book gives detailed insights into the life of gangers and those even lower than them. It describes how underhive relationships work on a personal level and as a society.
The author is able to capture all of that from the perspective of the affected, the world view, the lack of information, the imagination all wonderfully fit to persons that have never lived outside of the underhive, never seen a tree, a cloud, snow, the sky, a space marine. Experiencing 40k from such a perspective on its own made this book worth a buy for me.

    Tldr:
If you are interested in necromunda and its people then the insights in this book alone make it worth a buy.
If you enjoy feeling disgusted and or reading about psychological/physical abuse then its also worth a buy (and vice/versa).
If you really like spiders its worth a buy as well (and vice/versa).
