Telegraph Canyon explores the complexities of adolescence, creativity, and family dysfunction. At its heart are interconnected stories of Richie, Mark, Sean, Carolyn, and Teisha—teenagers navigating the mortifying landscape of high school in Southern California at the turn of Y2K—that capture the raw, absurd, and deeply felt moments of growing up.
In "The Adventures of Klack vs. Swift: The Movie," Richie and Mark's childhood sci-fi characters come to life in an ambitious hand-drawn animation project; "One at a Time, Letters Fall Out of Place" charts a doomed romance from meet-cute to car wreck; while "Rick Smyer Devours His Friends" follows the tangled drama of comic misunderstandings and jealousies against the backdrop of a school musical.
Interspersed are three tales from the universe of Phoenix Dawn, where anthropomorphic aliens grapple with secret love, unimaginable loss, and the search for meaning on mysterious new worlds.
