    Description

The lives of two women, generations apart, converge in this enthralling novel of love, mystery, memories, and secrets.

Pregnant and still grieving the death of her fiancé, historian Megan Buchanan is forging ahead on a dream project: to restore to its original glory the landmark hunting lodge her own great-great-grandfather built on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. With the help of her fiancé’s caring best friend, it’s sure to draw much-needed tourist revenue to Cape Hudson, a town rich in southern history.

However, it’s Spring House, the caretaker’s cottage on the grounds, that holds the most intriguing history for Megan. In a cache of old letters, she’s drawn into the captivating life of a young woman who embarked on her own dream adventure a century ago. With each one, Megan is swept away into her enthralling world - and all its secrets. But Megan has secrets too.

Now, as one woman’s past unfolds in each revealing letter, Megan will discover more about herself and about the emotional tides of family that can be weathered with those you love and trust the most.

"Winter Cottage" & "Spring House" series

Following from The Winter Cottage more history is revealed about the Hendrick and Jessup and Buchanan families from the early 1900s through to today on the eastern shore of Virginia. Along the way, many loose ends are resolved while love shows its many forms. Although there is a mystery and some danger, this is a soft and fulfilling story of family and enduring love. I really enjoyed these 2 book series. Love historical back and forth stories full of intrigue and hidden secrets weathered in time.
The one thing that really bothered me was listening to Spring House after listening to Winter Cottage the voices are very different for the same exact characters? In the 1st book Winter Cottage they have a heavy Southern drawl. In the 2nd book the sequel the Spring House no one has a Southern drawl. BIG OOPS!
This may seem insignificant to some, but this is a historical regionally referenced book.... All the charm is lost when listening to it.

This is a sequel... very confusing!

Right from the get-go, I found myself struggling to keep up with all the names and relationships. Despite all my best efforts to keep it straight, I eventually gave up and just listened, not even attempting to remember who was who, and who married who. I still never quite sorted out who Victoria was, and all the families seemed weirdly incestuous in their own non-blood related way. There was more than one instance where I scratched my head thinking, "Wait... who is that again?" Addy? Arlene? Two different Adeles? Elise? Way too many names that sound similar. And also, "Wait... wouldn't they be related, but they are/were engaged?" Just name after name thrown out there with the author's attempt to explain, but in my mind it was all so jumbled. Maybe it was just me, but I struggled big time. The writing was good and the premise interesting, but there were way, way too may sub-storylines happening that I felt muddied the novel. Megan being pregnant... Lucy and Natasha... Steven Jessup's journal... Diane's life... Megan and Rick... Megan and Helen... the restoration project... the pie catering business... the Jewish/Holocaust connection... Megan's historical projects and "unique" knowledge of antiques... the story of Claire and her early life (who I swore I heard mentioned as "Kathleen" early on in the book). It was just too much. I felt like it was months' worth of soap opera storylines all crammed into one book. The author could have cut out several of them and had a compelling story that flowed much better and offered a clearer picture. Only after I finished the book did I see from the Amazon reviews that this was a sequel to her first book. Maybe reading the first one would have cleared a lot of it up, maybe not. Either way, I wasn't overly impressed. The narrator did a great job, tho.

    Wonderful!

I have “lived” in both Winter House and Spring House with these fascinating women. What a great time it has been. Ms Taylor develops her characters to perfection.

    Good until

Good, except it ended so abruptly that I thought I was missing a chapter. I wasn't.

Liked Winter Cottage, but this one....

I listened to this right after I finished Winter Cottage, and I was so disappointed. The storyline was "okay," but the ending!! It just STOPPED! No explanation, no gentle letdown. It just stopped. Probably the worst ending of any book I've read!

A MUST READ after “Winter Cottage”❤️

A BEAUTIFUL continuation of the cast of characters, as well as some new ones of course, and their stories! I thoroughly ENJOYED it as much as the first!❤️🥰
The same narrator~Shannon McManus~once again HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK as well❤️She brings the characters and their stories to life in such a BEAUTIFUL way❤️
I’m just SO SAD it ended😩I literally felt heartbroken having to “say goodbye” to the cast of characters I came to love❤️

On to the next BEAUTIFUL novel by Mary Ellen Taylor!❤️🥰

If you like epic family stories, you'll enjoy this

Read Winter Cottage FIRST. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but narrator needed to refresh her memory of Winter Cottage accents before reading Spring House. Also, ending is quite oddly abrupt. Overall, I would recommend.
