Elizabeth Bennet does not set out to manipulate people. It's merely the correct choice of words, accompanied by an engaging smile or a beseeching look that yields the most satisfactory results. The morning after the Netherfield ball, Lizzy dispenses with one unwelcome suitor to her hand so amicably and successfully that she sees no reason why she should not make use of her talent for tactful speeches and deal with other unwelcome suitors in the same deft manner.

Histoire
Fitzwilliam Darcy takes his responsibilities seriously. He excels in every endeavor he pursues and upholds the highest standards, and he has little patience for those who flaunt their flaws like the Bennets do. Elizabeth Bennet longs for the toe-curling romance she reads about in novels. She dreams of an honorable man - loyal and generous to the less fortunate...everything Mr. Darcy is not.
Description
Could anything be worse than to be trapped in a confined space with the woman you love?
Fitzwilliam Darcy knows his duty, and it does not involve succumbing to his fascination for a dark-eyed beauty from an unheard of family in Hertfordshire. He has run away from her once already. Yet fate has a wicked sense of humour and deals him a blow that not only throws him back into her path but quite literally puts him at Elizabeth Bennet’s mercy. Stranded with her at a remote inn and seriously hampered by injury, Darcy very quickly loses the battle to conquer his feelings, but can he win the war to make himself better understood without the ability to speak?
Thus begins an intense journey to love and understanding that is at times harrowing, sometimes hilarious and at all times heart-warming.

A Darcy's View Variation - Beautiful and Different
Darcy has been gravely injured, and the weather has prevented any ability to call loved ones to come and help. In this way, Lizzie and Darcy are left to shift for themselves in an unfamiliar inn with only a handful of strangers around them...for days. It sounds ridiculous, right? It isn't. I put off listening to this one because the premise seemed so silly, but my advice is that you set that aside and just dive in. I love this one. I've listened twice already, and there are only three P&P variations I can say that about. The writing for Speechless is exceptional. The circumstance created could have been awkward, unrealistic, or even an insulting departure from Austen's world in less capable hands, but it isn't. It is crafted so carefully and so convincingly that you completely buy in to the story. The characters remain consistent and recognizable despite the totally different environment in which we find them. The story is filtered solely through Darcy's perspective rather than Elizabeth's, and so we are left to feel his confusion, fear, pain, and frustration rather than hers. Parts of the story are truly harrowing, but right at the point where the conflict might become tedious, the author puts a halt to the angst and brings the story to a timely close. It is beautiful. You completely believe in the love story. The ending is unique and satisfying. It's brilliant. Give it a listen.

Great story
I love this story. It's extremely original, yet faithful to Jane Austen's characters. The story deviates from canon right after Bingley & Darcy escape to London. Darcy decides to return to Hertfordshire and happens upon a carriage accident. What follows becomes the basis of the tale. The narrator is not overly expressive or strong in differentiating voices, but does a great job clearly reading the story. If you go into this expecting a pleasant reading of a unique take on Pride & Prejudice, you will not be disappointed.

Liked the story, the narrator, not so much
The idea was a good one but the narrator was just so very dry it was hard to get through.

Charming. Wonderful. Delightful. True to Jane’s original characterizations in an absolutely unique setting and circumstance. I enjoyed every minute of Speechless!
