Description
The inside story of how Big Pharma’s relentless pursuit of ever-higher profits corrupts medical knowledge—misleading doctors, misdirecting American health care, and harming our health.
The United States spends an excess $1.5 trillion annually on health care compared to other wealthy countries—yet the amount of time that Americans live in good health ranks a lowly 68th in the world. At the heart of the problem is Big Pharma, which funds most clinical trials and therefore controls the research agenda, withholds the real data from those trials as corporate secrets, and shapes most of the information relied upon by health care professionals.
In this no-holds-barred exposé, Dr. John Abramson—one of the foremost experts on the drug industry’s deceptive tactics—combines patient stories with what he learned during many years of serving as an expert in national drug litigation to reveal the tangled web of financial interests at the heart of the dysfunction in our health-care system. For example, one of pharma’s best-kept secrets is that the peer reviewers charged with ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the clinical trial reports published in medical journals do not even have access to complete data and must rely on manufacturer-influenced summaries. Likewise for the experts who write the clinical practice guidelines that define our standards of care.
The result of years of research and privileged access to the inner workings of the U.S. medical-industrial complex, Sickening shines a light on the dark underbelly of American health care—and presents a path toward genuine reform.

Great info, but I’m confused…
I really am glad I read this book!! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it validates much of what I was thinking regarding “big pharma”, and the role
Of the medical community. It is well written and the narration is solid. My biggest concern and confusion lies in the author’s promotion of the C19 vax. He seems to be a proponent, and believer. I keep wondering WHY he wrote a 9hr book telling readers how bad, dirty and downright illegal pharmaceutical companies are, but then he seems to think that THIS time-with this one badly researched, hastily authorized product they saved humanity?? By now, the world knows the vax doesn’t even stop the spread of the virus… so why so blind regarding what’s happening RIGHT NOW???

Informative But a Little Inconsistent
Some revealing information in this book on how the pharmaceutical companies control and manipulate our entire medical system and government. The author presents a pretty good case and provides a number of good examples. However, the author seems to blindly trust pharmaceutical companies and the current system he maligns in the book when it comes to these “vaccines” for COVID. So his inconsistent and contrary viewpoints make it difficult to trust everything he presents in this book.

No PDF
The narrator keeps referring to contents of an "accompanying PDF" that does not exist. Detracts from an otherwise compelling book. Kevin Stillwell narration excellent as usual.

No big surprise
I liked this book. If you are interested in this topic, there will be no surprises here. But that doesn't make any of it less disgusting. I liked how he used case studies of various drugs to make his points. I'm sure his publisher pushed the solutions section. I'm not sure how realistic they are but at least there are some ideas. Basically, big medicine and big pharma have made us extremely unhealthy and it's not getting better.

Eye opening
For those who aren’t familiar with the inner workings of the pharmaceutical, medical, and insurance business in this country, this book is very much worth the read to understand that these companies do not have the best interest for the public’s health.

Truly sickening.
What every American should know. Read and share urgently. It explains much about why our government pushes meds that don’t work.

Sickening
Every adult in the United States should read/listen to this book. The title is right. it's sickening how this is allowed. Thanks for methodically laying out the facts, sharing your expertise and educating all who will listen.

Absolutely shocking and highly interesting!
I don’t live in the US but I was still curious about what exactly is going on there. Just like everybody else before, I heard stories but this book shows the true extend of the fraud, crime and evil acts committed against the citizens of the United States. One of the best books I have read so far.
