    Description

Contractor Shannon Hammer is measuring murder motives in the latest Fixer-Upper Mystery from the New York Times best-selling author of A Wrench in the Works and Eaves of Destruction....

Shannon's good friend and retired tech billionaire Raphael Nash is loving his new retired life, but he can't stay unoccupied for too long. He's started the Marigold Foundation, which helps fund small companies and individuals who do humanitarian work around the world. It's an exciting time in Lighthouse Cove as Raphael hosts the first ever global conference, inviting big thinkers from every area of industry to give presentations on eco-living.

Raphael's old business partner arrives in town with a grudge and a plan to steal him away from his important new passion project. Shannon knows her friend has no intention of giving up Marigold and is proud of Raphael for sticking to his guns. But when his former associate winds up dead, all signs point to Raphael.

It's up to Shannon to hammer out the details of the murder before her friend gets pinned for the crime.

    Something has changed

...and not just the narrator. After six books with the same narrator and associating the changes of her voice with each character this was not pleasant.
I had also got to a point in book six that I felt the author was giving us readers to much minute detail of the different scenarios that the character was involved in. This seventh book was much worse. I literally was using the fast forward option for the first time for I felt that I felt I was being lectured on “being green”. No thank you. If I choose to learn (useless) information I will take a class not listen to a cozy mystery. I continued to the end as I wanted to see how Shannon & Mac’s relationship developed but I feel there was little or no growth there.
Very disappointing and just one more thought, does everyone in Lighthouse Cove jog? Mac jogged here, Eric jogged there and Shannon jogged somewhere!

    Mehh

I've liked her stories before. I have listened to several in this series.
This one starts out with just too much building detail. I was kind of bored by it. Then the narrator does not do male voices very well. Characters started sounding rather dim-witted. that was when I realized that this is a different reader from the previous books. So is possible that this book is as good as the others in the series...

    Did not enjoy narration.

I have really enjoyed this series but the new narrator was just not right for this book. I struggled through it and was glad when it was finished. I will not listen to another book from this narrator.

Fun story and characters hurt by poor narrator

I've enjoyed all of books in this series. Fun cozy mysteries and enjoyable to listen to normally. This new narrator made most of the male voices sound weirdly munchkin-esque. The narrator lacks the ability to nuance her voice and create an enjoyable cast of character voices. She made Emily and Jane sound like two gruff men. It made this particular book rather grating to listen to even though I had initially been excited to see a new book in this series. I hope the series will continue, but PLEASE choose a more accomplished narrator!

    Very disappointing

I wanted to like it; but did not. The story was not intriguing, the characters blended together. The narration didn’t help because the voice characterizations were either nonexistent or just didn’t make sense.

    Couldn’t finish it.

This is the 6th or 7th in the series I’ve listened to. I struggled to finish the last one because of the narration. I couldn’t finish thus one and I’m returning it. The last one was tough because the last narrator had difficulty differentiating between the two primary female characters. This narrator was fine at differentiating between the characters, and her main character was great, but many of the other characters just sounded ridiculous and annoying. This writer has several characters that each speak in their own voice and I think it’s just tough on the narrators to come up with multiple good voices. The first 4 or 5 in the series were fine but the last two were difficult. I won’t be trying any more in this series. I’m not sure why whoever is producing these, or whoever is approving the narrator, isn’t able to see that. But maybe it’s just me since these last two books do appear to get good reviews for the most part.

Meh. New narrator is doing the series no favors

On the whole, I enjoy the series. Not all the installments, but overall. This is lower on my list, but not as low as Deck the Hallways, so that's something in its favor, right? Unfortunately, the narrator is not doing this book any favors. Not sure why (again) the narrator changed, but bleh. The review asks the reader to evaluate the "performance," but I'm not sure this book was actually performed. It's more like it was "read." And "read" with the enunciation and sincerity that a preschool teacher would give to story time. Conversations had no flow at all.

While the reader did give the characters their own voices, those voices didn't at all line up with the voices the prior two narrators gave. Mac's voice did not portray him as a handsome sexy man - there was nothing "come hither" about his "Hello, Irish" greeting of Shannon. And that's a shame, since his genuine warmth toward her has been one of his plusses since the first book. Tommy's voice wasn't the innocent friendly guy he has always been. And Lizzy, Jane, Emily, and Marigold? Forget it. Jane sounds nothing at all like the sophisticated and gracious inn owner that we know her to be. She might boost cars in her off hours.

Anyway, the story line is fine. Although Rafe and Marigold are the two main "friend" characters, they're really not terribly involved in the plot. The story is more about the sustainability conference that Rafe sponsors, and the various attendees.

I'll stay with the series, but probably will read the print edition, where this narrator can't spoil it for me.

    Disappointed

I’ve enjoyed the first books in this series, but this one fell way short. The narrator changed and is not good. The story was disjointed and had no real mystery
