Book seven in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

Saint Sabbat has returned, and she is being hunted by the deadliest of assassins. Gaunt's Ghosts must fight to protect her - but can they defend against treachery from within?

Listen to it because...it's the culmination of a massive story arc that sees tragedy strike even as the Sabbat Worlds Crusade is given new hope with the reappearance of the Saint herself. Mysticism and warfare collide, with compelling results.

The story: with the future of the Sabbat Worlds campaign balanced on a knife edge, new hope arises in the form of Saint Sabbat herself, reincarnated to lead the Imperium to victory against the dark forces of Chaos. The living saint calls for Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and the Tanith First to be her guardians. Doubting that she is who she claims, Gaunt must discover the truth while fending off enemy troops and lethal assassins. But treachery within the Ghosts will not only threaten the mission, but rip the Tanith asunder.

Written by Dan Abnett, narrated by Toby Longworth.

Well well well, looks like a certain rat got what was coming to it. Still, it doesn't change the fact that Coo is the worst-written character in this entire series. He's a cheap antagonist that gets away with literally everything because the plot demands it. In case you need a reminder, here's what he did before being caught (by a psyker no less).

Nearly killed/injured:
Derrin
Sauer
Creed
Larkin
Gaunt
St. Sabbat

Killed:
Muriel
Brag
Corbec

Also a rapist

This character is irredeemably bad for no reason whatsoever. It's funny how the only good book since Necropolis is this one where there is nearly no time spent on him, having a ridiculous character that everyone knows is a killer going around killing people left and right really ruins the other books. He needs to kill because the plot demands it to create drama and tension, except there is none because everyone knows it already.
And it's not like Abnet doesn't know how to write bad guys, Feygor is pretty close and actually well-written, and so is Rawne.
It's a shame that it happened but I hope the books going forward will be all the better for not having Coo in them.
