Editors Select, December 2017
It's no secret that I'm a massive Christina Lauren fan, so when I saw that their latest stand-alone novel, Roomies, was coming out in December I jumped at the chance to make it my editor pick. In fact, I even re-listened to Beautiful Bastard - the first book in their popular series by the same name - to get me in the right frame of mind. Unlike Beautiful Bastard, however, Roomies has a surprising innocence to it that caught me off guard. Twenty-five-year-old Holland is stumbling her way through adulthood, and she shocks even herself when she decides to save her uncle's Broadway show by marrying the sexy Irish guitarist he wants to hire for the orchestra - who happens to be in the country illegally. Their slow-burning relationship, and Holland's own journey of self-discovery, was charming, natural, and completely real to this subway riding, Broadway obsessed NYC gal. PS, K. C. Sheridan needs to narrate more - her Irish accent is officially my new obsession. —Katie, Audible Editor
Description
From subway to Broadway to happily ever after. Modern love in all its thrill, hilarity, and uncertainty has never been so compulsively enjoyable as in New York Times and number one international best-selling author Christina Lauren's (Beautiful Bastard, Dating You/Hating You) new romance.
Marriages of convenience are so...inconvenient.
Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a big-time musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway - until he admits his student visa has expired and he's in the country illegally.
Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

I need an Encore
Let’s be honest I’ve been a fan girl for Christina Lauren since B.B. and they have never disappointed, however I am disappointed now, because I am in serious need of an encore. I have had a book boyfriend in Will since he was first mentioned in their books but he has now be replaced by a Beautiful Irish man. Colin is seriously everything that I would want in a mate, he’s loving, kind, encouraging, faithful, and even when his dreams come true and he could have anyone he still wants his girl! I love this and I need to know what happens after ...
This was an easy read, pretty quick you won’t want to put it down until you finish it! The narrator is amazing and truly does bring this story to life, and the story itself is just so real! More than ever before I believe this is their best book yet and they have truly grown as writers! This book is realistic and heartwarming, and seriously swoon worthy!

I loved it.
I loved the accents by the narrator. Loved the visual descriptions of music. Charming and sweet. Calvin was an adorable male lead.

Decent story, terrible performance
The cadence of the American accent performed was painful to listen to. The rest of the characters were presented more accurately but the main story didn’t feel authentic at all.

So much love for this Dynamic Duo
Goodreads Review: First I should start that I have been a fan of these two ladies for years! Starting with Beautiful Bastard!! I'd read romance but these ladies introduced me to RomComs, and for that, I'm beyond grateful. Now back to this book now that I've gushed about the Authors! Roomies is the perfect blend of comedy and drama. This would make for one hell of a movie. I was hooked from the first page. I felt the emotions, and just overall did not want to put this book down. I read it in about five hours and neglected the adulting I should have been doing. I should probably stop gushing now. Great job again ladies! I can only hope to be as impressive as the two of you one day.
My thoughts on the Audio: K.C. Sheridan was perfect for this story, Now I can't wait to listen to more books with her narrating. I loved listening to books but when the author/s can find a narrator that is perfect for a story it makes it seem that much more real. I'm ready for the next one.

Narrator's cadence killed it for me...
I am a huge Christina Lauren FANGIRL! I have read and Audibled BEAUTIFUL BASTARD like a million times.
It was another satisfying fake marriage turned relationship romance set in the heart of a Broadway musical. The writing and characters were strong which I've come to expect and always enjoy from the duo and there were the usual 'lol” moments - though not often as their previous books.
I started out with the written word but switch to Audible when I couldn't keep my eyes open and was so excited because it was narrated by K.C. Sheridan who is one of my favs... BUT not this time around!!!
I will give Sheridan props for her Irish accent – it was at times very Saxy! Although, I found it bled into the other characters voices as well esp the heroin. What made me stop listening after only a third of the way in was her over produced cadence. The di-tonic intervals, that is, the ascent and fall of one tone or in this case one sentence, were too pronounced and at times did not fit the emotional tones of normal speech.

Don't do it
The story line in this book seems great. I love a good hearted romance in a book. the book itself didn't seem too but but I was completely thrown off by the narrator. She tries to give each character their own voice but her narrating over all is just awful. Please just buy the ebook and save yourself from listening.

Disappointed
Started out so good, then it let me down with some stupid things going on. Sorry, but I don't play at that kind of stupidity.

Book was really good, but ending was lackluster
I don’t understand why you write a really good book to not give people a good detailed ending .....gurrrrr😑Makes the rest of the book and the wonderful writing kind of seem like it was a waste.

Roomies
This book was weird - I think it was hard to get past the fact that the main character is supposedly a native of Iowa who now lives in New York .. but the person reading it on this audiobook clearly has an Irish accent.

Well
I liked the story for the most part. The story was well written, the characters seemed original, the drama was, of course, there but not overwhelming and over the top. I liked the heroine’s growth over the book, her realization of some hard truths, and she was also relatable. Here’s my issue and why I took away a star; I wasn’t sold on the narration. I can’t think of the best way to describe it, but it almost seemed like she had trouble differentiating between her American accents and her Irish accents. I’m not really an accent snob here, but it was noticeable to me. The main thing that stood out was that some statements she made seemed almost like questions. Anyway, it was okay.

Good story, poor performance
I really liked the story but I had to stop the book so many times because the performance was very poorly. The voices were good but not anything in between. The intonation in the naration was very annoying.

Sheridan is awful
The story isn't bad, however, Sheridan made it almost painful to listen to it, especially at the beginning.

you won't be able to put it on side!
I loved it! it was hard to put it away, even with full time job I finished it in 3 days. There were some moments when I was just writing to what will happen next because it was too long for describe one situation, but it didn't disturb, at least not too much.
it's good book. there is some spicy moments as well, even if teenager is pretty grown up at young age, I don't think much younger as 15-16 will enjoy this book as much.
