Description

This program is read by the author.

The mental wellbeing of our children is shockingly poor. Marc Brackett, author of Permission to Feel, knows why. And he knows what we can do.

"We have a crisis on our hands, and its victims are our children."

Marc Brackett is a professor in Yale University’s Child Study Center and founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. In his 25 years as an “emotion scientist”, he has developed a remarkably effective plan to improve the lives of children and adults - a blueprint for understanding our emotions and using them wisely so that they help, rather than hinder, our success and well-being. The core of his approach is a legacy from his childhood, from an astute uncle who gave him permission to feel. He was the first adult who managed to see Marc, listen to him, and recognize the suffering, bullying, and abuse he’d endured. And that was the beginning of Marc’s awareness that what he was going through was temporary. He wasn’t alone, he wasn’t stuck on a timeline, and he wasn’t “wrong” to feel scared, isolated, and angry. Now, best of all, he could do something about it.

In the decades since, Marc has led large research teams and raised tens of millions of dollars to investigate the roots of emotional well-being. His prescription for healthy children (and their parents, teachers, and schools) is a system called RULER, a high-impact and fast-effect approach to understanding and mastering emotions that has already transformed the thousands of schools that have adopted it. RULER has been proven to reduce stress, depression, and burnout and enhance to encourage higher academic achievement. This book is the culmination of Marc’s development of RULER and his way to share the strategies and skills with listeners around the world. It is tested, and it works.

This audiobook combines rigor, science, passion, and inspiration in equal parts. Too many children and adults are suffering; they are ashamed of their feelings and emotionally unskilled, but they don’t have to be. Marc Brackett’s life mission is to reverse this course, and this audiobook can show you how.

Learn to Read

I’m trying really hard to listen the the message but his narration is making it almost impossible. Where is the producer here?
He reads. Then stops. Then reads. Then stops. I can’t do it. I will have to read it myself
This is the second book by the author that I can’t bring myself to listen to. Someone teach them please.

Must Read!

Marc sets forth both a meaningful and significant message for recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating emotions that could literally change the world and how we support children and one another in moving through it if people invested their time and energy into applying what he offers.

Important for parents

Very enlightening. Makes me think a lot about how I am affecting my stepsons development and how I can help the whole family deal with emotions. Also has tips for how to deal with it at work.

Really important book

Not just for educators and parents, but also for business leaders. Grateful that Professor Brackett took the time to write this important, relatable piece of work.

Excellent material, narration a bit subdued

An important and wonderful book. This should be required reading and the model is great. A note on the audible performance: the professor has done thousands of lectures, but the reading was very subdued given the passionate subject matter.

Full of aha moments. Positively life changing

This book is terrific! The book is full of "aha" moment.
Marc Brackett as a way of explaining the differences in emotional vocabulary that is tangible and clear in a way most books fail to articulate.
I love that Marc Brackett narrated as well it made it feel personal.

It helped open up communication between my wife and I. We already had a happy, loving relationship, but this took it to the next level of communication and understanding for ourselves and each other. I can not thank Marc Brackett enough!

Wonderful book, terrible reading

Fantastic author, compelling book but please re-do this audio version--it is truly awful to the point of being distracting. I really cannot believe that so little care was given to the audio version. The author stops and starts in very odd places with almost no thought to the structure of the sentence. It's also very monotone. Please hire an actor to read the next version and make the audiobook more than just an afterthought. This is great work, but I think my money was wasted on the audio.

GOOD INFO, but don’t get the audible

I love the information and stories in this book. It’s given me so much to think about and act on in my own life personally and as a parent. The narration was not good though. I tried so hard to get through, but couldn’t make it. The narrator is trying to read slowly and with style, but it’s distracting and doesn’t flow. I was disappointed. BUT I ordered a real book and made it through and I am so happy with my purchase.
