Histoire
A British journalist is invited to Malmö to interview an old university friend who is now one of Sweden's leading film directors. When he discovers the director's glamorous film-star wife dead in her apartment, the Skåne County Police are called in to solve the high-profile case.
Description
Some people have dreams that are so outrageous that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. Francis Drake, Robert Scott, Percy Fawcett, Charles Lindbergh, Amy Johnson, Edmund Hillary and Neil Armstrong are among such individuals.
But what if one man had such a dream, and when he'd achieved it, there was no proof that he had fulfilled his ambition?
Paths of Glory, is the story of such a man. But not until you've turned the last page of this extraordinary novel, will you be able to decide if George Mallory should be added to this list of legends, because if he were, another name would have to be removed.

Artless and witless
Archer takes a stab at 'faction', which is misguided at best: he's not the world's most skilled wordsmith, and story is all he's got. There is not a single original simile, metaphor or image of any kind in this entire book, just a relentless parade of cliches. He manages to make climbing Everest sound as challenging and arduous as popping out to the newsagents for some cigarettes. Avoid like ... well, the plague.

An unexpected find
I really enjoyed this audiobook. Despite the fairly dead-pan style, the story still got me in. I really had no idea what it was about before I listened to it - quite a find. And my husband may even enjoy it too!

Ops, misleading description!!!
"This is the story of a man who loved two women, and one of them killed him." Sorry, no, it is not. This is perfectly wrong and misleading as this man only loved one single woman all his life.
The mistake origins from a play of words with the native - female! - name of a very high mountain. Audible should really change this!
So please don't expect a threesome or you'll be bitterly disappointed...
In fact this is the story of George Mallory and several other men and their struggle to conquer Mount Everest. Brilliantly written by Archer, gorgeously narrated by Roger Allam. A very thrilling, moving and intriguing book, providing a wide picture of the era and it's protagonists. Very enjoyable!
