In 2002, a young orca was discovered near Seattle - lost, alone, and 300 miles away from home. Six months later she was rescued, rehabilitated and reunited with her family on the north end of Vancouver Island. Today Springer is thriving, with two calves of her own. It's the only successful orca reunion in history!
Author Donna Sandstrom tells the riveting story as it happened, from her perspective as a participant in the project. Learn how a community came together to return the orca to her pod, and how the whales responded. Listen to Springer's actual calls! Facts about orcas are interspersed with the narrative, providing a baseline of understanding about these charismatic mammals and our complex history with them. An inspiring true story of hope! (Orca calls provided by OrcaLab.)
