Description
Best-selling author Helen Fields is back with her best book yet. A masterful crime thriller that is set to be the most memorable listen of 2022.
One for sorrow, two for joy....
Edinburgh is gripped by the greatest terror it has ever known. A lone bomber is targeting victims across the city, and no one is safe.
Three for a girl, four for a boy....
DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach face death every day - and not just the deaths of the people being taken hostage by the killer.
Five for silver, six for gold....
When it becomes clear that with every tip-off they are walking into a trap designed to kill them, too, Ava and Luc know that finding the truth could mean paying the ultimate price.
Seven for a secret never to be told....
But with the threat - and body count - rising daily, and no clue as to who’s behind it, neither Ava nor Luc know whether they will live long enough to tell the tale....
With twists and turns you’ll never see coming, prepare to be gripped by this devastatingly good thriller. Perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride and MJ Arlidge.
Commentaires
"An emotionally charged and superbly gripping thriller that kept me turning those page until the early hours! Masterly plotted, not to be missed." (Jane Isaac, author of An Unfamiliar Murder)

Book 7 is a winner but intense.
I had to wait awhile before I could write anything about this book. It certainly wasn’t an easy read but I couldn’t put it down. It was very tense and emotional. DI Luc Callanach and DCI Ava Turner have their work cut out for them with some bizarre incidents that seems to be targeting first responders. At the same time, there is a flashback storyline about another incident. I can’t say more without giving something away. Are the cases related? Will Luc and Ava and their team discover who and what is behind all of this before there’s another attack? Lots of emotion in this.
The narration of the audiobook was well done. I hope the next book is out soon.

Another Excellent Listen!
As per usual, Ms. Fields writes an engrossing Scottish police procedural and crime thriller. DI Callanach and DCI Ava Turner lead a group enjoyable characters through criminal cases in Edinburgh. Mr. Laing employs a listenable Scottish brogue and narrates beautifully. Highly recommended!

I’m Crushed…
Truly, I do not know what to say. This has been one of the best series I have listened to in a long while and can not reconcile how it all came to a close. The author wrote a group of wonderful novels that made up this series and it is highly recommended. Still, I wish that it hadn’t ended as it did. Nothing like a bit of realism thrown into my fiction!
I hope that this isn’t the end, but it (sadly) makes sense if it is.
Great work by the narrator, Robin Laing. I hope to listen to many more books with his amazing voice. Much thanks to Helen Fields for creating such wonderfully authentic characters, and for creating not only a remarkable, fast paced and believable police procedural, but also one that leaves the reader wanting more and doling out an abundance of food for thought about life and living it. Brava.

Fantastic! Thought provoking
This story had me hooked from the very first chapter. The author kept my interest through out the entire book, with hidden twists and turns. Chomping at the bit for the next book.
The narrator was superb. I felt there was a cast of twenty.

Helen...you're a jerk
Amazing book as usual. Incredible really. Its the kind of book you can't stop listening to and keeps you constantly guessing and engaged. That being said the title of this review is accurate and I applaude Helen for making such a damn good and painful book.

One of the very best!
I could not stop listening. I love the characters and how each plot is tied off. If the next book was available now I would be listening to it now instead of writing this review!

WTF
The end was very dishearting & I was left feeling robbed. The storyline was interesting and had a unexpected twist in the crime.
But the relationship between the two main characters in the end was too painful. And the author left it undone, hopefully there will be another book to wrap up this series to justify this this book. If not I recommend not bothering with this book.

An easy 5
I forgot to go to bed. This book just got better and better. The author describes bomb scenes by
squeezing past them as she focuses on the police
Investigation and some ivery interesting characters. This is so very good!

Good crime story, but
But, their love story is so annoying. Like they are fifteen years old. Avas character is so overdone and one dimensional in this 'strong woman not showing feelings' mold. I've been listening to all of these books and their love story kept getting more annoying. Just f*ck already. Good twists though!

brilliant
What a ride! This is by far the best crime novel I've read in a ling time. Multi-faceted, intelligent, great personnage and no shying away from the hard truths and complications of life. Thanks, Helen Fields!
