Description

Solving the case will avenge her sister - unless the killer finds her first.

It’s been fifteen years since Claire Calderwood’s sister, Rachel, was brutally murdered in their small hometown in Maine. Claire has finally carved out a life for herself as a homicide detective in Detroit, but the past comes calling when the local police back home ask for her help with a murder eerily similar to Rachel’s.

Still haunted by Rachel’s cold case, Claire returns home, hoping to solve the crime and finally put her grief to rest. As she starts investigating, the last thing she needs is tenacious journalist Noah Washington asking questions she’s not ready to answer. But like her, Noah won’t give up until he finds the truth - and Claire reluctantly finds herself relying on him more and more when disturbing new details about Rachel’s death come to light.

When the killer strikes once again, Claire knows he’s not done. Now he’s set his sights on Claire, who will have to find the courage she needs to survive a deadly confrontation years in the making.

Story is ok. Narration is AWFUL!

The narration of this is absolutely awful! Speed reading in the tedious rhythm of someone who took a class on how to read but has no feel for letting a story dictate inflection. Seriously "I scrolled up the page" is spewed with the same 14 year old girl angst, tone, and intensity as "I turned and saw a gun being held to my head". Mind-numbing and absolutely destroys what could be a decent little book.

Good book, didn't like the narrator

I liked this book but I didn't enjoy the narrator. I liked the story and I would love to read more by this author but the narrator was the issue for me.

Not for me

This would be great for first time readers, BUT just not believable for seasoned crime readers. A homicide detective from Detroit does not just pack up and move back to her small town 'cause the police there can not solve ONE murder. It gets worse from there!

If you can stand the performance the story is great

Boy this production was less than stellar. The lady had so much histrionics and just over-the-top whiny, urgent, and on the edge difficult to listen to voice. However if you can get through that the story is excellent.

Great book

Great book, listened to whole thing in a day. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because the narrator was terrible.

It takes a strong woman!

I thought this was a great book, maybe its because I'm partial to books with strong lead woman characters. I like stories that have alot of suspects, leave you wondering up to the end. Although I did have it figured near the end. But your quessing for awhile. Lauren Ezzo did a great job reading/Performing this story. I did enjoy it. The main character had alot of inner struggles while trying to do her job, who to trust, even her own Mother.

Suspense with relief

This book had great suspense and I loved that the main detective was a women. But there was also enough relief throughout the book that would calm your nerves a little bit. Overall, I really enjoyed this and cannot wait for the next one of the series to come out.
