Description

Tina Turner - the long-reigning queen of rock & roll and living legend - sets the record straight about her illustrious career and complicated personal life in this eye-opening and compelling memoir.

From her early years in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her rise to fame alongside Ike Turner to her phenomenal success in the 1980s and beyond, Tina candidly examines her personal history, from her darkest hours to her happiest moments and everything in between.

My Love Story is an explosive and inspiring story of a woman who dared to break any barriers put in her way. Emphatically showcasing Tina’s signature blend of strength, energy, heart, and soul, this is a gorgeously wrought memoir as enthralling and moving as any of her greatest hits.

This memoir is wonderful. Thank you, Tina

Fabulously written, insightful and candid. Love it!! But the narrator was overly dramatic. We can ascertain Ms. Turner’s strength and character without her distracting inflection. Wish I read the book and not listened.

Great story but...

It's interesting, well written, just what you'd expect of Tina, but the narrator... She overemphasizes every other word, makes it really hard to focus on the story. Can it be re-narrated by someone else? Or even by the same person after giving her some chamomile tea or something?

Fascinating story, so-so narration

When I first heard about this memoir, quickly submitted my preorder. I wish I would have waited until the release date and listened to the preview. The narrator's cadence distorted the meaning of the text. From beginning to end, I had to restate the sentences in my head while listening to this book. It was painfully obvious that someone else was reading this book. I have listened to other memoirs, not read by the author, with narration that was so engaging and consistent with the author's style that I believed the author telling their own story. My favorite examples are "Universal Tone" by Carlos Santana, read by Johnathan Davis, "Sing To Me..." by LA Reid, read by Dion Graham, and "My Life With Earth Wind and Fire", by Maurice White, read by Dion Graham. If you have a choice between the print version and Audible, GET THIS BOOK IN PRINT! At some point I will probably buy a hard copy so "hear" Tina tell her love story in my mind.

My Buddhist sister and friend.

This story was extremely important because it shared the most intimate details of our Dear Tina's life. I am chanting for Tina's victory in all affairs. Nam myoho renge kyo!

OK story, terrible narrator

The narrator was pain to listen to. Too many unnecessary and inappropriate exaggerations that I was even thinking of quitting listening and buying the hard copy or Kindle.

Disappointed

I love autobiographies and I have always liked and respected Tina so I was very disappointed by this book. It feels ghost written with almost no emotion and insight. It is basically a recitation of facts about Tina's life and very little discussion by her about her thoughts and emotional landscape. For example, there is almost no mention of her children and her relationship with them (in fact, when she falls in love with her current husband, she remarks that no one in her life has ever loved her before). She really doesn't discuss her feelings or give any explanation as to why she stayed married to Ike for 14 years. Basically, you will know lots of facts about Tina after this book, but you won't have any real insight into her. She never admits any mistakes and she comes across as having a much bigger ego than I realized. I have to say that after this book, I liked her less. The narrator was very good but her voice and her diction sound nothing like Tina so it's hard to connect the two.

Heartfelt honesty

I really did enjoy this book, except that I thought it was read too dramatically and it got kind of boring with the monotone reading that this woman did. The story was spot-on the part that broke my heart was when her son died and he never knew that the separation that happened when he was younger was due to his father. The highlight was hearing her so happy to be married and truly have found love after all the years of abuse. Tina is a beautiful woman outside and inside I never knew what her life was all about. I'm so thankful that she shared it with us to appreciate what we all have till we might lose it.

Love every bit of it!

A great love story! The funniest and most memorable part of the book is when Tina asks Erwin to make love to her when he comes to America and when he did he didn't call her back for months! LOL I also found her story of triumph over her many ailments in her later years and her renewed love story with her husband when he gave her the gift of life via his kidney as REMARKABLE. The saddest part of the book is when she shared how her son took his own life with "Ma" gun. Just heartbreaking :(
