But when a knock at the door brings news of a shocking discovery, she suddenly finds herself thrown in to the middle of a baffling mystery: the bones of a young woman have been found in the woods just behind her new home. Perhaps the little village of Upper Bembury is not as idyllic as it first seemed? Strange phone calls in the night convince Melissa that the police are barking up completely the wrong tree, so she can’t resist doing a little digging of her own. From the bingo hall to the beauty salon and beyond, her search ruffles a few feathers and uncovers many of the village’s most scandalous secrets, but gets her no closer to finding the culprit.

Description
Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this new series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry.
Alfie McAlister has retreated from London to the peace and quiet of the country to recover from a personal tragedy. But an accidental death - which may have been no accident - reveals that the heart of England is far from the tranquil backwater he imagined. After arriving in Bunburry, he is co-opted as an amateur detective by Liz and Marge, two elderly ladies who were best friends with Alfie's late Aunt Augusta. And it is not long before their investigations take an even more dramatic turn...
In "Murder at the Mousetrap," the first Bunburry book, fudge-making and quaffing real ale in the local pub are matched by an undercurrent of passion, jealousy, hatred and murder - laced with a welcome dose of humour.
Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

if you love the Cheeringham Series....
You will enjoy the folks who inhabit a place named Bunburry. This is a cozy mystery with eccentric characters who inhabit a land nestled somewhere between past and present....no tech, low tech, & todays tech.....served with tea, creme, & scones, in the Cotswolds. A fun romp for a winter's evening! SLKW

Glad I gave it a go!
I was a little apprehensive about the short length of this book so I almost didn’t buy it. So glad I did! The characters pull you right in and the vivid descriptions and narration style are spot on. I have fallen in love with Bunburry and can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

This was fun ...
Nathaniel Parker's always a delight to hear, so the narration being good was a given. I was a tad concerned that the story was going to be complete in three hours -- so used to the longer 8 to 12 hour stories that I wasn't sure I even wanted to try one of these Bunberry mysteries. But, for three dollars, for three hours, that's very inexpensive entertainment, and I gave this a try. I have to say it was a real pleasure to listen to such a warm, witty, cozy mystery in such compact form -- kind of like an espresso -- lots of flavor in a compact form. Great characters, fun little town, this being book 1, it set up a great cast of characters I'll happily go back to again … three hour stories are perfect for an afternoon or evening's listening. I'm looking forward to the cheerful, tongue in cheek wittiness continuing through the series.

Fluffy, not really what I’d call a mystery
A perambulation through conversations with the inhabitants of an idealized Cotswold village. A token mystery that could as easily been pinned on any of the suspects since there were no actual clues that led to the discovery of the guilty person. A few hand-waves at Oscar Wilde. Won’t bother with any others in the series.

Ain't no Cherringham
I just couldn't get into this. The performance was great, but the characters and the story were boring. Didn't finish it. I loved the Cherringham series, but this just doesn't compare.

Fun and fluffy
I prefer longer books, but this was like a bonbon -- a sweet little treat. Easy to sympathize with the main character, and the little village is full of familiar (but not quite stereotyped) folk. I wanted it to be longer and more complex so that I could spend more time with them.

Flat characters in a crude story
Didn't make it through the book. Characters are so stereotypical that it hurts and the plot is guaranteed to make you fall asleep over and over again. All in all: a book that had better be left on the shelf.

lovely narration, slightly poor plot
Lovely language and narration but the plot was a bit hurried and jumpy towards the end. I was wondering whether I had missed chapters...
