Description
High school sweethearts...and nobody knew.
Ashleigh Pence had been the all-American high school girl: cheerleader, prom queen...and in love with another girl. Gina Granbury hasn't thought about Calloway High in 20 years, but the arrival of the invitation to the class reunion brings back memories of Ashleigh and the betrayal that drove them apart.
With no real choice, Ashleigh has to go the event, hoping that it's not the one reunion that Gina decides to attend after all these years. Gina had expected to dismiss the possibility as easily as she has during all the years since, but the curiosity is suddenly strong. Her long-broken heart has never mended, but that's no reason to go back in time...is it?

It Grows on You
I really like the Gerri Hill love stories and I eagerly awaited Love Waits, I bought it on pre-order then began listening the same day I downloaded it. I can report that it really is pretty good, I was initially disappointed with this one, but it gets better each time I listen to it. Once again the staples of a Gerri Hill are there, and what they they lack in originality they make up for in impact and warmth; so to recap. Take a huge helping of "At Seventeen," throw in some "Midnight Moon" add in the staple of too many romance novels; the quintessential lame miscommunication breakup. it really seems that as a character in a romance novel, whether straight or gay automatically makes one a middle schooler. Then there is the silly plot device of a character who decides that the truth isn't the way to go, makes up a silly lie, then sticks said lie despite it's stupidity and the certainty that the truth will be exposed and expose her in that lie. This will make her appear to be totally lame, silly and so very immature. Thus by the time the HEA comes to pass, some of the shine is off the apple and the author has taken that dreaded Lesrom shortcut familiar to any fan of her work. That's disappointing knowing she's capable of so much more.
That being said, this book is good enough to overcome it's more ridiculous aspects and it turns out to not that far short of a 5 star rating. It doesn't compare with the author's best, or even rank in her top five, it is good enough, to rank above most of the genre. Yes even a mediocre Gerri Hill Lesrom is almost always a good choice and will be worthy of appreciation.

Awesome narrator
Great romance by Gerri Hill. Even though I enjoyed reading this book years ago, Abby Craden adds new life to the characters which makes the romance even better. Well worth the purchase.

Excess of homophobia, shortage of plot
Best part is Abby Craden's narration. The story is set in homophobic small town Texas. Setting shifts between characters' high school years and twenty years later at school reunion. Characters are forever 18, still immature, still not communicating well. There isn't much plot, nothing other than the discussions they need to have--when will they talk, why did they break up, who will say what. Not poorly written though! Three points for being well written and well narrated. Just not a story or characters I could enjoy much.

One of Gerri Hill's best
Gerri Hill is a solid author who writes all manner of books, but whose strong suit is definitely romance - and LOVE WAITS is one of her strongest romances. This story of young love, separation, and long delayed, adult reunion, is a moving tale of the love of a lifetime that almost fails because of a break-up that is so ludicrously lame that it made me moan out loud in exasperation. Once past that bump, the plot rolls along smoothly with well crafted prose, adequate angst, and finely wrought love scenes enough to satisfy any fan of love stories. The tale's many jumps back and forth along the timeline are handled competently and without confusion to the reader. Overall, this a truly enjoyable listen.
Speaking of enjoyable listening, Abby Craden's reading made this story a real treat for the ears. I swear she could read a Trump Tweet and make it sound alluring. What a talent!

The heart knows
Ashleigh and Gina share a rare connection with each other. Gina’s insecurity however keeps them apart for 20 yrs. I love the flashbacks that tell their story. Great second chance love story with lots of heat.

love this story
I really enjoyed this book. It is written in a very nice and pleasant way It contains themes like second chance at love, friends to lovers and femme-femme. The book switches between present time and the past, yet in a suitable way in terms of the Story the timeline. One does not get the feeling of jumping around the timeline for no reason. It is used in an enjoyable way to make the story richer.
Narration: I still have to find the audiobook, where I would think that Abby Craden could have done a better job. For me personally she is one of the best voice actors we have in the lesbian romance genre. Not to be expected otherwise, she did a fabulous job in “Love Waits”. Her vivid storytelling makes the time fly by.
Rating: I rated this book with five stars, because I have absolutely nothing to complain about.
