Martin Hansen left his family's home in Arendal to sail for America and follow his dreams. On the ship he meets the enigmatic Dagny, traveling with a man who calls himself her brother. Martin and Dagny become good friends - until passengers' stolen jewels are found in her trunk. Martin believes so strongly in Dagny's innocence that he provides her with an alibi - though it ruins her reputation.
