À propos de ce contenu audio

“I don’t just want to hear her laugh, I need to earn it. Every time I gain a little ground, I want more. I want to break out of the shade and back into her light. Without even realizing it, I’ve become addicted to it. To her.”

From the author of the genre-breaking international TikTok sensation Butcher & Blackbird comes the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy—a hate-to-love dark romantic comedy packed with danger, chaos, and heat.

Contract killer Lachlan Kane wants a quiet life working in his leather studio and forgetting all about his traumatic past. But when he botches a job for his boss’s biggest client, Lachlan knows he’ll never claw his way out of the underworld. At least, not until songbird Lark Montague offers him a deal: use his skills to hunt down a killer and she’ll find a way to secure his freedom. The catch? He has to marry her first.

And they can’t stand each other.

Indie singer-songwriter Lark is the sunshine and glitter that burns through every cloud and clings to every crevice that Lachlan Kane tries to hide inside. The surly older brother of her best friend’s soulmate, Lachlan thinks she’s just a privileged princess, but Lark has plenty of secrets hiding in the shadows of her bright light. With her formidable family in a tailspin and her best friend’s happiness on the line, she’s willing to make a vow to the man she’s determined to hate, no matter how tempting the broody assassin might be.

As Lachlan and Lark navigate the dark world that binds them together, it becomes impossible to discern their fake marriage from a real one. But it’s not just familiar dangers that haunt them.

There’s another phantom lurking on their doorstep.

And this one has come for blood.

Leather & Lark feels like the series fully stepping into its stride. While the first book laid the groundwork, this installment sharpens everything! Character depth, emotional tension and narrative confidence.

What makes this one stand out is how intentionally it uses familiar tropes. The fake marriage isn’t just a plot device; it becomes a framework for forced proximity, emotional exposure and slow-burn connection. Lachlan and Lark are both morally chaotic, yet their relationship develops through humor, restraint and earned trust rather than instant intensity.

The character writing is where this book truly excels. Lachlan’s quiet devotion and unexpected softness balance his gruff exterior beautifully, while Lark’s wit, agency and unapologetic confidence make her impossible not to root for. Their banter feels organic, serving both character development and pacing rather than existing purely for flair.

Even when certain plot elements are predictable, the execution remains engaging thanks to strong dialogue, well-placed tension and memorable side characters. And while I won’t spoil it, the bonus scene is… unforgettable, in the most Brynne Weaver way.

Highly entertaining, surprisingly thoughtful and best experienced in audio for full immersion. Easily my favorite in the series so far.

I will start by saying that Butcher & Blackbird hold a special n°1 spot in my heart 💜 & that one can’t fully be topped
but I did love this second installment so very much 💚

I audiobooked this one and the duet was funny and so very *insert Irish ☘️ accent* freaking sexy. I want to give a special shout out to the narrators who did such an amazing job! I felt it and lived it and loved every second of it! You do not disappoint 💚💚

It was similar and yet so different from the 1st one, unique in its criminality and I was here for it! Lark really is Blackbirds soul sister and she was perfect! Spunky and sweet yet brutally vicious in the cutest way!

Ok so I have to say that the epilogue was a bit unexpected. it’s a choice and im not sure how I feel about it, part of me loved the call back but … hmm yeah…
Either way, doesn’t matter coz the book is great and I feel like we need more multiple deleters in this universe 🖤

Thanks Brynne for the imagination & bringing us these characters, you’re the real rockstar 🫧

    Amazing 2nd book
