Since that first visit to Chile, I have returned to Latin America dozens of times. I have walked through the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and the tech hubs of São Paulo. I have shared mate with entrepreneurs in Buenos Aires cafés and interviewed farmers using precision agriculture in rural Colombia. I have witnessed political protests in Santiago and celebrated startup victories in Mexico City. Each experience deepened my conviction that Latin America stands on the precipice of something extraordinary.
The question I am asked most often—whether by investors, policymakers, or students—is simple and impossible: "Will Latin America finally fulfill its potential?" The question contains within it decades of frustrated expectations, boom-and-bust cycles, and promises unfulfilled. It reflects both hope and skepticism, ambition and weariness. My answer has evolved over the years, but today I can say with confidence: yes, but not in the way most people imagine.
