Learning should be fun. However, memorizing a list of vocabulary is rarely fun and usually ineffective. Even though you go through your flashcards a hundred times, by the next day, you’ve probably forgotten 50 percent of the vocabulary. But what if you could hear and see the vocabulary used over and over again in context? What if that context was a fun story that you would enjoy reading or listening to over and over again?
These five short stories written in Spanglish, a mixture of English and Spanish, about a little boy who gets himself into all kinds of interesting situations, does just that. The Spanish vocabulary is used repeatedly throughout the stories in a way that enables the reader and/or listener to effortlessly learn the vocabulary through the context of the story. Isn’t this the way we learn our first language, through hearing the words repeated over and over again in a meaningful context?
Six-year-old Johnny tells us funny stories from his childlike perspective that we can all relate to. Whether you or your children are learning Spanish, you will both enjoy doing so through these fun stories about Johnny’s little adventures.
