    Description

This is the definitive behind-the-scenes account of Capcom's horror video game series Resident Evil - one of the most popular, innovative, and widely influential franchises of all time.

Industry expert Alex Aniel spent two years interviewing key former members of Capcom staff, allowing him to tell the inside story of how Resident Evil was envisioned as early as the late 1980s, how its unexpected and unprecedented success saved the company from financial trouble, how the series struggled at the turn of the century, and, eventually, how a new generation of creators was born after the release of Resident Evil 4

Itchy, Tasty narrates the development of each Resident Evil game released between 1996 and 2006, interspersed with fascinating commentary from the game creators themselves, offering unique insight into how the series became the world-conquering franchise it is today.

    Not what I was expecting

If you read game magazines in the 90s/00s you already know everything that's going to be said in this book. The developer quotes are few and far between, and it's much less about the journey of creating the games, moreso about what each RE game was like and how it was received/sold. It's almost like a series of game reviews combined with facts and figures. It's a very weird, extremely uninteresting book.

    Awesome!

Great stories about RE told for the first time in English! Behind the scenes stuff that we never knew we were missing. A must have for any RE fan.

The narrator switched to saying Comcap for some reason in the last forty five minutes. Seems like she should have taken a coffee break instead of reading it straight through.

Otherwise great can't wait for more from this author!

    Excellent background info!

This is an excellent breakdown of one of the greatest series in video games! The narration is good, and I've learned more about the Resident Evil series than ever.

    RE Fan

Enjoyable look into RE past, though mainly focused on development of the earliest titles and only brief mention of later titles.

Not much about the games, but still informative.

A surprising amount of the book was not about the development of Resident Evil. There are a few bits about hardware that apply to the overall story for context about restrictions but there's quite a few moments of tangential detail that really don't matter to the selling point. Would have liked to know more about the philosophy of design and planning of the games in depth but this subject is fast and loose. That said it IS really informative and clearly had a lot of heart put into it and the narration is great. I personally came to it for more insight of the actual building of the games, but that might be for another time.

    Interesting at least

I love Alex and his dedication to Resident Evil and all the immense hard work that he's done for the franchise and fans. This book was great, but not exactly what I had in mind. I was thinking this would be more about creating the story of Resident Evil characters and lore, not about the sales and console wars. However, it all hits nostalgia, it's cool af to hear about, and there are several moments that have you laughing. If you're a fan and looking for something lore related, this isn't it, but, if you want something to commemorate the creators of the franchise, look no further.

not great. borders on false advertising

I regret buying. which is a shame since I love RE. but this author promises " unique" and "exclusive" perspectives on RE development and 99.9 percent of this content can be found in any competent YouTube video on the subject. I was quite disappointed.
