Great beginning to a new series
I am a major LJ Ross fan and I just love DCI Ryan and his team. This new series introduces the psychologist Alex Gregory.
The locale of County Mayo, Ireland is a departure from Ross’s previous books and it works well. Alex is invited over to help profile a killer in a small town. There are many suspects, several alibis, and a bunch of red herrings. It took quite a while for me to figure out who the killer was. In fact, it came as a big surprise. That’s a good book, in my opinion. And the epilogue made me exclaim out loud.
The narration was first rate. Very well done.
I am looking forward to more in this series, as long as Ryan comes back, too.

Another Storytelling Triumph from LJ Ross
I’ve read everything LJ Ross has written. Her stories and style are compelling reads for me. However, now that I’ve just completed reading Impostor, I have to add riveting to the adjectives I associate with Louise’s books.(For me, riveting is a degree beyond compelling.)
This story is intense and vivid in imagery. As with the DCI Ryan series, she’s done another exemplary level of research, but of more significance for me, Louise has again translated her research into this story in a way that moves the story at a pace with only one negative outcome—I can’t put it down and it’s ending too soon, which now it has.
This book is unlike her DCI Ryan stories, an amazing feat, because the Ryan catalog is, on its own, so worth reading. And yet, one of the benefits of Ross’s Alex Gregory series is that it differs significantly in style from Ryan. Nothing lighthearted about Gregory, which has led me to add riveting to my Ross lexicon.
Thank you LJ Louise Ross. Looking forward to new releases in December.

Enthralling tale, set on the West coast of Ireland
English criminal profiler finds himself in a small, close-knit Irish community. This is an enthralling tale revealing how much a good psychologist can analyse people’s behaviour and motives when there are no clues as to who is the murderer.

Forensic psychology pursues serial killer....Hard topic done with delicacy
I prefer mysteries that focus on an intelligent story with twists, good character development, a balance between action and reflection, and minimum gore- this book meets my criteria!

Wonderful new series..
Wow! Another great book by LJ Ross. And I didn’t come close to guessing who the killer was. I will definitely read the next one, when it comes out.
I liked Alex and was always wondering about his nightmares, but I did have a feeling about Kathy. And I was right about that part of the story. This had some great secondary characters.
I've listened to all 13 books LJ wrote in the The DCI Ryan Mysteries so it's nice to have another series starting.
No sex and no swearing.
As to the narration: Hugh Dancy did a great job on the narration. I would listen to him again.

Half&Half
Positives; The narration by actor Hugh Dancy was flawless, I enjoyed listening. The setting, a small village in Ireland. I liked the lead character and his internal struggles. But...for me the story & the characters were underdeveloped & it lacked "Spark"

Psychologically interesting thriller
Dr. Alexander Gregory works in a hospital for the criminally insane, and ehen his mentor asks him to help out in an investigation as a profiler, he reluctantly plunges into everyday life in a small town in Ireland - where a sweet young mother has been murdered. Not your usual sensational and loud thriller but a quieter work concentrating on the nuances of life. It might happen anywhere. Brilliantly performed by Hugh Dancy, whose melancholic voice gives the story exactly the right atmosphere.
