    Description

    “A gripping journey.” (People)

The highly anticipated memoir from hip-hop icon Rick Ross chronicles his coming of age amid Miami’s crack epidemic, his star-studded controversies and his unstoppable rise to fame.

Rick Ross is an indomitable presence in the music industry, but few people know his full story. Now, for the first time, Ross offers a vivid, dramatic, and unexpectedly candid account of his early childhood, his tumultuous adolescence and his dramatic ascendancy in the world of hip-hop.

Born William Leonard Roberts II, Ross grew up “across the bridge,” in a Miami at odds with the glitzy beaches, nightclubs, and yachts of South Beach. In the aftermath of the 1980 race riots and the Mariel boatlift, Ross came of age at the height of the city’s crack epidemic, when home invasions and execution-style killings were commonplace. Still, in the midst of the chaos and danger that surrounded him, Ross flourished, first as a standout high school football player and then as a dope boy in Carol City’s notorious Matchbox housing projects. All the while he honed his musical talent, overcoming setback after setback until a song called “Hustlin’” changed his life forever.

From the making of “Hustlin’” to his first major label deal with Def Jam, to the controversy surrounding his past as a correctional officer and the numerous health scares, arrests, and feuds he had to transcend along the way, Hurricanes is a revealing portrait of one of the biggest stars in the rap game, and an intimate look at the birth of an artist.

    self righteous boring crap

This is the worst book ever. Ross was a middle class kid who becomes a phony gangster turned C-list rapper, gaining zero humility or self awareness along the way. He devotes an entire chapter to apologizing for being a Florida corrections officer at one point. Ross talks like he is Jay-Z + Pablo Escobar rolled into one bad ass mofo. He's more like Vanilla Ice + Plaxico Burress rolled into one clown show (only not as good at rapping or football).

Chapter 1 is copy paste of Heavy by Kese Laymon. Got to stop listening after that blatant plagiarism. Please refund my credit Audible.

I wish Rozay himself narrated his book🤷🏽‍♂️

Narration was not the best specifically when lyrics to Rozay's music were being read. if you are a fan of his music and know lyrics, you hear the song whenever you hear the lyrics. The way the narrator was reading them off was annoying to me.

    Disappointed

On a whole the book was well written and very insightful but, I really think this book would have been 100% better if Rick would have narrated himself. Imagine buying a Rick Ross album with somebody else spitting his lyrics, it just doesn't work.

    Wish Rick Ross Read it

Overall great memoir, only thing that would have made this better is if Rick Ross read it himself

Great delivery and so much un told substance needed for the culture..

Initially, I was I bit disappointed because I wasn’t able to hear Ross story from the voice of a boss. But his narrator captured every bit of his demeanor and finesse. This book created a great back drop that illustrated Ross’s early childhood and how he had to maneuver in the fast pace streets of Miami. Ross provides readers with un told inquiries that hip hop heads and readers like myself were seeking for. Good book for the culture!

    Eye-opening

An insightful view into Rick Ross’s come-up; How easily he could have ended up being just another statistic and how he hard he had to grind behind the scenes while waiting his turn. I’d wished Rick Ross would have narrated this himself but Guy Lockhard does a terrific job in painting a very vivid picture and conveying the emotions behind every line.
What we have here is a great book, folks.
It’s a shame the book isn’t longer, I wasn’t ready for it to end.

    Amazing insight

Crazy read; I was zoned and hubs on to every story! It’s was awesome to see the parallel vulnerability of Ross through the timeline of events witnessed in the media. I was left wanting more lol

    Brave

Thanks for allowing us into your world, but mostly thinking about your babies knowing their Daddy. The Visual, The Honesty and the suspense kept me on the edge through the whole book.

    maybach book

Nice story telling - never boring or exhausting. Very enjoyable as audio-book.
Ricks venture into rap ... background / inside-stories on different albums / tracks.

Very enjoyable, would've listened for another 5 hours... def will replay another time ...

The reader did a neat job too

Not all albums / tracks covered with deep insights, maybe we can expect a continuation?

    Authentic life story

The Biography is great, but the speaker is fake as hell. However highly recommended audiobook!
