Former Texan beauty pageant queen Annabelle Stonewood is lured to Hollywood in 1932 with promises of being an extra at the renowned Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. She's in awe of the glitz and glamour surrounding her but soon discovers being a small fish in a big pond is tougher than it looks. This bubbly gal never had such a tough time making friends before! Having failed to make an impression after a few shoots, Annabelle is poached by the notorious publicity department.

Feeling lonely working in a department full of men, Annabelle is determined to use her attention to detail and Southern charm to make sure the reputations of MGM's extensive roster of stars remain pristine. But when she's assigned to shadow rising star Clover Halliwell on the set of her latest movie The Enchantress, a strange encounter with a prop and a tragic accident make for a chaotic day of filming. Did experienced light technician Chuck Thorne simply fall off the soundstage balcony? Why are strange things happening around her and why are the other dames who touched that prop so skittish?
