Description

Nikki Heat and Derrick Storm, New York Times best-selling author Richard Castle's most enduring and beloved characters, team up for the first time to save Nikki's mother, Cynthia, who has been in hiding (and presumed dead) for 17 years. Standing in their way is a nefarious group of Chinese businessmen known as the Shanghai Seven, who have the resources - and ruthlessness - to stop them.

Excellent close to a great series.

This book was great. It had a lot of action, a good twist and lots of political intrigue. Heat and Storm working together made for excellent chemistry. Closed out all of the ongoing mysteries in both series. Highly recommend both the Nikki Heat and Derrick Storm books to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with intrigue.

Heat & Storm Together at Last

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep writing the Nikki Heat (and Derek Storm) novels. I was so glad to see this book. I feared "Richard Castle", whomever he may be, wouldn't continue with the books, after the TV series Castle was canceled. I miss spending my Monday evenings with Beckett, Castle, and the team. These books enable the characters to still live, so to speak.

Introduces Derrick Storm (+ next book warning!)

Actually... this book re-introduces Derrick Storm, who was the main character of Richard Castle's earlier books - before he created Nikki Heat. "Richard" apparently killed him off - much to the chagrin of his (fictional) fans. He brings him back in this book, because Derrick only "faked" his death. I enjoyed his character more than I thought I would, so after this series ended (apparently, with this book) I went on to the Derrick Storm series. The first three books are actually one, and are basically a set up. Books 4 & 5 were quite enjoyable.

I'm actually writing this review as a warning of the NEXT book called "Crashing Heat" (which just came out).

I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Richard Castle books. I highly recommend you watch the series Castle first, if you haven't. It adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the books (conversely... if you like the books, you will like the show).
So I got "Crashing Heat" right away and listened. And it fell totally flat. Lost it's fizz...

It seemed like it was written by (yet another?) person with a style-sheet for a guide. Someone who was not a fan, nor had watched the show (or even read this book). Cookie-cutter. Huge plot holes. A character that was dead is back and alive as if it never happened. Repeated descriptions and dialogue. Nikki is insecure about Rook, even though they can't keep their hands off of each other long enough for a plot to develop. She is not that insecure of a character! (Or that unprofessional in her office.) At the 1/2 way point I was still waiting for something to take off. Still waiting at the 3/4 mark. Sounded like a romance novel. Weak mystery (but with Castle approved theme). Seemed like it was a Victoria St. Clair novella (Castle fans know what I mean). I stuck through to the end just to see if it got it's sparkle back. It didn't. (And parts skipped/repeated)

Unfortunately... I returned it so fast, that I can't leave a review for it! So I left it here. Just as a warning. If you liked the previous books, the new one is not really worth your time. If you enjoyed the previous books, then move on to Derrick Storm like I did. Let this series end here...

Looking for Tom Straw novels instead now ; )
(unless he wrote this one too?)

Another excellent listen!

I liked this one a lot more than the last in the way they kept the 2 perspectives running side by side. This made up for the disappointment I encountered in the last book. A lot of fun.

I liked it.

I liked it after I got use to the chapter rotation, as the story blended the two characters together.

If you like castle

You will love this. Fortunately I do and I wasn’t disappointed. Of course, don’t confuse this with high art.

Fair speaker, excellent story

I think the speaker does not give full credit to female characters. He sometimes sounds a tiny bit bored, too. But the speed is okay, and the rest of it does not bother me enough to distract me from a really thrilling story. I would probably enjoy it more if it was spoken by someone as great as Stephen Fry... ;)
Still, highly recommended! :)
