For those that want to know, be aware...

I bought this book during the Audible sale and was eager to listen. I am already living my best life every single day, but was curious to know what that looks like from a celebrity's point of view, and if she had any health or beauty tips. What I wasn't expecting was that this book is very centered on "new age" stuff. Within the first twenty minutes, she talked about mantras, about stopping to give respect and praise to trees and plants, and about her fondness for divination (especially her Tarot cards). Definitely not for me. She narrates beautifully and I'm glad that works for her, but as for me, I'm a flawed human. Positive thinking and visualization and mantras and the best intentions will only get you so far, until life throws you a curveball out of left field. A disease, a tragedy, a death, a divorce, a major disappointment. No matter how we try, there will always be those things in life that still cause us pain or worry or fear. As a Christian, I rely heavily on the peace and safety and comfort of knowing that God has my back, and He adores me and cares for me, and that I can trust in Him to take care of things for me. I am not qualified enough, even on my best day. I follow His path and guidance, and life is grand because of that. I much prefer to pay my praise and respect to the One who created the trees and plants, and who created little ol' me. I, as one of God's special plants, bear much fruit. =) Anyway, I stopped listening since I just have no interest in the kinds of things that are important to her. I wish her the best, and any others who enjoy her book.

Disappointing...

I was looking forward to this book, but after reading it was sadly disappointed. I was expecting it to be more profound, a truly relatable book for women. It is a cute book, a fun/light/trivial read but it isn’t a book I could relate to, she came to know all these natural/herbal remedies/meditation styles in a typical LA way. How many women can just drop everything and go to Peru, also the herbs she uses are expensive and most people can’t afford her “lifestyle”. I was expecting it to be applicable and woke, it comes across as a woman with lots of time to dabble, who decided to write a book about her LA holistic regime.

So engaging!

This book kept me engaged the whole time. I found myself relating to a lot of her experiences in motherhood and life in general. I took away a sense of power and positivity after every chapter, and definitely plan to use many of the tools given to find and center myself on a daily basis. I highly recommend this to anyone struggling to find inner peace and strength. It’s incredibly uplifting and powerful.

Spiritual Dancer

Jenna's book is like her, beautiful and sensitive. It's also filled with pretty photos and recipes and exercises. This book is a mix between a memoir, a heartbreak book, and magic. Jenna took us through a ride through her life from childhood until now. Focusing on her career as a dancer, being an actress, her roles as mom and wife, her relationships and divorce, her travels and discoveries, and her belief in the occult, witchcraft and energy, exercises, recipes, and mantras. I loved the many information she added to mine, I wanted to exchange information with her and maybe send her some gifts from our part of the world from scents to herbs. I loved Jenna in "Take the Lead" (though she didn't get a lot of scenes after edits, but I love the last tango scene), and Witches of East End (sadly she didn't talk about it at all, though I thought the role resembles her actual life.)

Jenna is precious, not completely what I expected however.

I think Jenna is a sweet person who is very... intentional but this book didn’t move me like I had hoped. It feels like a to do list of “how to find your balance.” But it’s sort of mundane and mechanical. I hate to say that because I was soooo looking forward to this book. I expected it to be like another, top rated self development book I recently read. I just wish it was less of a “follow Jenna for the day and do what she does” style and more a curl up on the couch with your good friend Jenna, pour your hearts out, connect, and work through it together. I wish methods that worked for her were suggested instead of listing them off like a proven science. I took a few things from this book and plan to work them into my daily routine. If Jenna ever decided to write a second book I WOULD buy it. But I would hope that she opens up a little more. I understand keeping personal things personal. But if you want to reach an audience and help them feel understood, you have to share the heart stopping moments that truly made you strong. Honesty is everything. As of now I just feel like Jenna has no clue what it’s like to hurt, walk a mile in my shoes and tell me if rose tea solves your problems. But I try to remember I just don’t know her story. She didn’t truly share it. I bought this book because I was about to marry someone and my heart was broken by the truth of who they were. I hoped to learn how to gracefully deal with the moments that make you want to curl up in a ball. I didn’t get that.
