Description
Breakout author Melissa Bashardoust delivers a feminist fantasy reimagining of the Snow White fairy tale.
Enchanting and empowering, this magical new audiobook is an updated version of the classic tale.
At 16, Mina's mother is dead, her magician father is vicious, and her silent heart has never beat with love for anyone—has never beat at all, in fact, but she'd always thought that fact normal. She never guessed that her father cut out her heart and replaced it with one of glass. When she moves to Whitespring Castle and sees its king for the first time, Mina forms a plan: win the king's heart with her beauty, become queen, and finally know love. The only catch is that she'll have to become a stepmother.
Fifteen-year-old Lynet looks just like her late mother, and one day she discovers why: a magician created her out of snow in the dead queen's image, at her father's order. But despite being the dead queen made flesh, Lynet would rather be like her fierce and regal stepmother, Mina. She gets her wish when her father makes Lynet queen of the southern territories, displacing Mina. Now Mina is starting to look at Lynet with something like hatred, and Lynet must decide what to do—and who to be—to win back the only mother she's ever known…or else defeat her once and for all.
Entwining the stories of both Lynet and Mina in the past and present, Girls Made of Snow and Glass traces the relationship of two young women doomed to be rivals from the start. Only one can win all, while the other must lose everything—unless both can find a way to reshape themselves and their story.
Commentaires
"Narrator Jennifer Ikeda's pacing adds drama and intrigue to this twist on the classic Snow White story...listeners will enjoy this fresh take on a traditional tale that is filled with magic and strong female characters who must become allies rather than rivals." (AudioFile Magazine)
"In Girls Made of Snow and Glass, Melissa Bashardoust has given us exquisite displays of magic, complex mother-daughter relationships, and gloriously powerful women triumphing in a world that does not want them to be powerful. A gorgeous, feminist fairy tale." (Traci Chee, New York Times best-selling author of The Reader)
"Girls Made of Snow and Glass is like reading a particularly wonderful and vivid dream, complete with imaginative magic, delightful characters, and beautiful language. Melissa Bashardoust's debut novel is everything a fairy tale should be." (Jodi Meadows, New York Times best-selling coauthor of My Lady Jane)

A welcome new twist on a lackluster classic
A fresh new look based roughly on the tale of Snow White but with powerful, complex female characters.
Things I loved: That the love stories portrayed were all unique and unexpected. Not confined to romantic attraction and not limited to heterosexual relationships. Fully developed characters. Loved a chance to hear the story from two different character's perspectives.
Things I didn't love: A lot of the story was simply introspective internal dialect. While well done, it made the story move a bit slowly and be a bit dull at points.
However, I would definitely recommend and was glad to stumble across this gem!

Refreshing Female Fairy Tale
Refreshing version of Snow White. Strong relatable female characters. Entertaining story with a good pace. Finally a story where the Step Mother is kind and loving! My two oldest children were wedding presents from my husband. I didnt create them - but they have always been my kids. Never once have I referred to them as "Step". This is the 1st story where a 2nd Mom is a character I can cheer for. Thank you Melissa ❤

Beautifully magical
Two girls, one made of snow, the other of glass.
When they were young their hearts started to fail so they were reborn.
Lynette is a princess and her life is perfect, her father the king loves her and she never knew her mother so she never had to miss her but once her father remarries she finally thinks she will have a mother a real mother.
Mina a creation of glass and in desperate need to become queen to gain something better then living under her cruel fathers thumb. The king became fond of her and then she was queen but queendom wasnt what she expected. Mina and the king grew apart the moment after they said i do but Mina and Lynette grew closer they became like mother and daughter for a time.
*****semi spoiler but not really read at your own risk*****
But once the king dies Mina knows she will no longer be anything the kingdom will go the Lynette and Mina will be nothing. Mina couldnt go back to be being nothing she wanted to rule.
Lynettes father was on a hunting trip when he was injured badly he wasnt going to make it, Lynette wanted to find comfort with Mina but when she found Mina she found out her plan, her idea of getting rid of the princess, of Lynette so she could be queen without hesitation. Lynette ran and discovered the ability of her heart of snow.
Thats when the chase and action starts and its full speed from their. I loved this medieval fantasy about family and magic and the anarchy. It was beautifully written and the magic was intricate, i could picture the creation of different food and things that Lynette created and Felix i loved Felix. Felix is like a mirror he “mimics” emotions he was made to teach Mina how to fall in love so she could gain the kings favor. Felix mirrors your energy your emotions. It was so unique.
The ending was a let down, they all lived happily ever after... really? Come on!

Cool spin on a classic fairy tale!
First, I really enjoyed the narrator, I think she did a fantastic job with all of the character voices. The story itself was also good, and overall I really liked this spin on a classic fairy tale. The two main characters were really well written, Mina especially. My feelings for her throughout the story were like being on a roller coaster. Definitely recommend giving this one a shot.

Boring and stilted
I did not enjoy this story at all. The emotional aspect is wordy, forced, and overplayed. The plot lacks so many supporting details. Love the narrator though!

LOVED this book
I loved this. It has everything a book needs. It has romance, tension, turmoil, heartbreak, twists and turns and everything. Mina and Lynet are our main characters and they are step mother/daughter. They both have secrets of their own, and they both have magic with unimaginable capabilities. Mina has been raised by her cruel father, and he has made her do his bidding for far too long, be that marrying into a royal family, to using his magic abilities on her. Lynet is the royal princess, who never met her mother, and Mina has basically had that role for most of her life. Lynet doesn’t know of life beyond the palace. When disaster strikes the palace, both Mina and Lynet are forced to show some of their secrets to one another and peace of the kingdom is thrown off balance. Lynet and Mina must come together to find the peace they, and the kingdom, need.
LOVED. I love this story and this author.

Long drawn and boring
If it wasn’t for Jennifer Ikeda’s excellent narration, I would have given up immediately. To be honest, this was the book I had in the background to fall asleep to.
