What would happen to the world if the sun went out?

New epic sci-fi from Stephen Baxter, the award-winning author whose credits include co-authorship of the Long Earth series with Terry Pratchett.

By the middle of the 21st century, humanity has managed to overcome a series of catastrophic events and maintain some sense of stability. Space exploration has begun again. Science has led the way.

But then one day, the sun goes out. Solar panels are useless, and the world begins to freeze

Earth begins to fall out of its orbit.

The end is nigh.

Someone has sent us a sign.

Commentaires

This is a book that quite beautifully uses familiar SF tropes to explore how fragile we are as a species - and how robust and clever we can be too. 4.5 stars.
Galaxias is an unapologetic thought experiment...the true protagonist here is Baxter's invented and inventive cosmology.
A welcoming entry point into the world of Stephen Baxter's grounded big science fiction. Four out of Five Stars
[Shows] that rationality and scientific co-operation can solve almost any problem, no matter how vast

The basis of the story is very creative.
But soon in the book, narration is boring, as in a soap movie. Hard to follow. Characters overviewed. Funny at the start, the « dialogue only » writong style is enerving.
I got to the end just thanks to the reader’s skill: great voice, great actor, trying to living up a book not deserving her.
As a synthesis: avoid it…

Good pitch, boring and lazy style, great reader
