Description

Renowned for the beauty and simplicity of his teachings, Ajahn Chah was Thailand's best-known meditation teacher. His charisma and wisdom influenced many American and European seekers, and helped shape the American Vipassana community.

This collection brings together for the first time Ajahn Chah's most powerful teachings, including those on meditation, liberation from suffering, calming the mind, enlightenment and the "living dhamma". Most of these talks have previously only been available in limited, private editions and the publication of Food for the Heart, therefore, represents a momentous occasion: the hugely increased accessibility of his words and wisdom.

Western teachers such as Ram Dass and Jack Kornfield have extolled Chah's teachings for years, and now listeners can experience them directly in this book.

You Don't Need to be a Buddhist to Understand Him

I have been a Buddhist most of my life. I didn't meet Ajahn Chah while he was alive. I don't know Thai. I am listening his words from a translation, yet I can see how easy he communicated things, feel how uncluttered his mind was.

If you are not a Buddhist, this book will help you to understand what Buddhism is about. If you are just at the beginning your practice, his words will address many of your confusions. If you are deep into your practice, he'll clear the sky for you. It really is food for all hearts.

Graeme Malcolm's narration is very good. He is neither monotone nor overexcited. Overall I am recommending this audiobook for all listeners.

You transform your mind to attain Nibbana, Absolute Peace. The Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path lie within you. You are the path, your mind must take you on the journey through it. It's up to you. Ajahn Chah points the way. It's a great compilation. Listen. Enjoy. Smile.

Cuts through the ego

This is one of the most insightful books on Buddhism that I’ve listened to so far. Ajahn Chah doesn’t beat around the bush in delivering the Dhamma. This is a very clear cut delivery of the original Buddha’s teachings. Since it’s Theravadan Buddhism, the monastic life figures heavily in Ajahn Chan’s teaching, but I think laypeople can take so much away from this book. If you highlighted every passage of wisdom in this, every page would be yellow! If you only wanted a few books on the Dhamma in your library don’t neglect this one. Also, the delivery of the content was excellent and smooth. I often listened to it on my work commute.

Timeless wisdom I can return to again and again.

I have listened to Food for the Heart several times and each time I learn something new. Ajahn Chah explains Buddha Dharma in a way that is both simple and profound. I appreciate his down-to-earth, "just do it" instructional style. This truly is food for the heart.

The narrator is so good! He has such a pleasant voice. Ajahn Chah has a fantastic sense of humor and the narrator does a wonderful job of conveying the humor in both inflection and tone.

Listening to the English accent was nice. The content is filled with so much information. I loved every minute and will probably listen again.

Changed my practice forever...

The simplicity and power of this work is incredible. I have listened to it twice in its entirety (and it will remain a staple of my practice). It continues to positively impact my practice, particularly off the cushion/walking path. Luang Por Chah’s words/teachings are elegantly simple yet so nuanced that if one is not mindfully listening one will not understand. If one looks deep within themselves and comes to this work with a child like wonder, life changing Dhamma will be shared that will directly reduce your suffering, if practiced. I particularly encourage individuals with a propensity to intellectualize the Dhamma to explore this great work.
