With Iris now dating and working on her first novel and Geneva reaping the benefits of being the most famous amateur sleuth in northern Indiana, things seem to be looking up for the crime-solving duo.

That is, until the day they go shopping at a high-end clothing store and discover a scene of carnage. Marilyn Abshire, 77, the genius impresario behind Sunday Chic, is found run down in a deserted alley. There is no shortage of people who may have wanted her dead - her husband, who felt entitled to her money; her nephew, who was hoping to inherit the vast fortune; her nephew’s girlfriend, still nursing a grudge from Marilyn’s attempts to sabotage her relationship; and Fawn Love, a former model who left the company under mysterious circumstances and is now bent on revenge.

Adding to the confusion, someone in Wrangler’s Hill is spreading bizarre conspiracy theories about moon people and time travel, and a number of Geneva’s friends and loved ones are buying into these lurid fictions. As Geneva and Iris chase false leads and uncover tragic old histories, each step brings them closer to a formidable opponent - a person who wouldn’t hesitate to murder meddling women, especially if those women are the only thing standing between them and a life behind bars.
