Description

Whether navigating the backroads of Louisiana or Thuringia, exploring the snowy Quebec woods, or performing onstage at Rush concerts, Neil Peart has stories to tell. His first volume in this series, Far and Away, combined words and images to form an intimate, insightful narrative that won many fans. Now Far and Near brings together reflections from another three years of an artist's life as he celebrates seasons, landscapes, and characters; travels roads and trails; receives honors; climbs mountains; and composes and performs music. With passionate insight, wry humor, and an adventurous spirit, once again Peart offers a collection of open letters that take listeners on the road, behind the scenes, and into the inner workings of an ever-inquisitive mind. These popular stories, originally posted on Peart's website, are now collected and contextualized with an introduction and conclusion.

Inspiring in a lot of ways

my wife hates Neil Peart because he "inspired" me to buy a motorcycle again after many years without. These books make me feel alive and I hope he writes 100 more before I die.

Entertaining but need pictures!

As expensive as audiobooks are you would think that you would get a companion eBook with pictures for free. The entire book refers to photographs which you can't see if you do not pay $13.00 for the companion book. If it wasn't for how enjoyable the narrator was I'd just get the print version.

Why did I wait so Long?

Neil was tremendous talent and I should have known that his writing skills were no less terrific. For some reason I never felt compelled to read his books. Not really into travel logs. but now I wished I had. Fortunately he left these experiences and thoughts and as a lifelong fan of his music I can insert myself into these stories because from time to time he was on his way to and from a show that I attended so in a small way I'm part of these journeys. There is a lot here even if you don't who he was, the writing and the story telling is great. I'm glad I have more of his books to look forward to.

Smooth Flowing. Very similar to Far and Away

The story flowed smoothly and once again Brian Sutherland did a excellent job.

Although, if you've read/listened to Far and Away you can expect almost the same story being told.

Ghost Rider is still the best.

Not my Favorite but I liked it.

Not my favorite book of his thus far, but I did enjoy it very much. By no means a bad book, but just compared to some other the others.

No Longer A Fan

I read Ghost Rider and I loved it. I was so happy that Neil found peace. I knew going in that the author was an atheist and was okay with that. I hoped throughout his journey he would find spiritual healing by means of Christian faith. Alas, he did not. Again, to each his own.

I started this book to get the juices flowing again for long distance motorcycle riding. Instead, I got an entire chapter mocking my Christian faith. Then I got lectured about abortion and racism. Hey Neil, I got news for you, the folks with the sign in their lawn about black babies being aborted is spot on. Black babies are aborted at a disproportionate rate as compared to white ones. The founder of Planned Parenthood was an avowed racist.

Unforunfortunately, in his mind it seems, everyone gets to shout their manifesto from the mountaintops except Christians. I couldn't make it past the 4th chapter on this one.
