    Description

The most effective leaders know how to connect with people. It's not about power or popularity, but about making the people around you feel heard, comfortable, and understood.

While it may seem like some folks are just born with a commanding presence that draws people in, the fact is anyone can learn to communicate in ways that consistently build powerful connections. Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, helps you succeed by revealing Maxwell’s Five Principles and Five Practices to develop this crucial skill of connecting, including:

    • finding common ground
    • keeping your communication simple
    • capturing people's interest
    • How to create an experience everyone enjoys
    • staying authentic in all your relationships.

Your ability to achieve results in any organization - be it a company, church, nonprofit, or even in your family - is directly tied to the leadership skills in your toolbox. Connecting is an easy-to-learn skill you can apply today in your personal, professional, and family relationships to start living your best life.

    stronger than normal Maxwell

Maxwell writes well and is a master at communicating ideas to others. however, it stems from his normal messages about leadership - ideas that are already present in his other books. a bit heavy on the religion for some people.

    teaching that changes lives

I have been listening and applying this book at the same time. In the process I've changed my mindset and approach to people as a result. Instead of seeing them as leeches, people who steal my, energy, I see and approach them as people of great worth. I'm genuinely seeking to add value to their lives. As a result, I'm being transformed as a leader and person. I'm developing more credibility in my relationships across the board. Great book.

    The principles are great

The book has a lot of focus on public speaking but the principles of communication are plenty in this book. Focus on the principles and it’s very applicable anywhere in life. To those that feel it’s religious…lighten up. The dude started out as a minister before becoming a successful leadership author and speaker. Of course he’ll use his experiences of communications from his personal experiences teaching and speaking. He’s not trying to convert anyone. Focus on the principles of communicating and you’ll survive and still not be a church going person. To everyone else interested in the book it’s one of the best books I’ve listened to regarding communication. So much good stuff in here and not boring to listen too.

    Book needs more work...

I'm a fan of John Maxwell and own many of his best books (written and audio), but when I purchased this audiobook and started listening, I was disappointed. My biggest gripe was the message of this book, in theory, it is a nice message. Realistically, I would re-title this book to more accurately be: "Everyone Communicates, Few CARE". The bottom line is: if you don't genuinely care about people, you CAN'T ever connect. Unfortunately, a book isn't going to teach you on how to care about people. And, if you are a person who does genuinely care for others and serve them, then you likely don't have the problem of not connecting with others through your good nature.

The real issue here is: pretending to care about people and seemingly trying to connect primarily for personal gain (i.e. manipulation). I did not hear John talk about this important matter. Perhaps John operates with genuineness in his matters that he might have overlooked this as a real roadblock that others face. Yes, his stories as a child and young man trying to avoid a spanking by his mother and trying to woo his wife, Margaret, by connecting are amusing and innocent enough. However, my issue with the book is the message is: 1) connect with others, 2) so you get what you need from people--rather than the reverse, 1) serve other's needs, 2) create a connection, 3) and you may have your own needs/goals met by people.
John mentioned an example of a woman who recently moved into a neighborhood and decided to meet all the neighbors. By meeting her neighbors, she got other neighbors to communicate with each other. Maybe she genuinely cared for others. It's possible. Or, maybe she was connecting for other reasons (i.e. possible run for HOA president, etc.)? How do you know? Ultimately, the actions of the individual truly define their intentions--words only give weight (or lack of) to your actions--not the other way. Your actions are what really connects.

What's confusing is John's best selling book, "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" addresses connecting with people as the key element to leadership success through genuinely caring for people. So, I'm missing the purpose of this newest book.

Lastly, John Maxwell would have connected far greater with the reader if he had narrated his book in its entirety.

practical guidance on the foundation of influence

information was presented in a way so you could take action and demonstrated the principal in the book of connecting rather than speaking above the audience. Sometimes in the quest to learn the next new thing or trying to share our new idea we forget the critical importance of connecting with people.

Now I Know What I Was Doing Wrong!

From the moment the narrator begun, his tone was pleasant and made listening a pleasure, I just wish it would of lasted longer. I will for sure seek out any other books, audibles or online courses. What I really liked was the questions I need to ask myself before I try and connect. Excellently Book! Thank you

    Fascinating: "Connection"

It is incredible to hear Mr. Maxwell share his knowledge on communication, specifically on understanding the difference between telling something, engaging and effectively connecting with another human being.
Remarkable knowledge to be read or listened to over and over, so we can practice by putting it into practice since this should be a must if we want to continue on this journey of personal and professional growth.

    Very useful info but….

It is delivered at such a fast pace that one can hardly recognise the headlines and for me personally it makes it a challenge to follow.
