Description

They have the perfect marriage. Did one of them kill to get it?

Prep school sweethearts Ian and Andi Copeland are envied by everyone they know. They have successful businesses, a beautiful house in St. Louis, and their eldest daughter, Cassidy, is following in their footsteps by attending prestigious Glenlake Academy. Then, a submerged car is dredged from the bottom of a swimming hole near the campus. So are the remains of a former writer-in-residence who vanished 20 years ago - during Ian and Andi’s senior year.

When Cassidy’s journalism class begins investigating the death, Ian and Andi’s high school secrets rise to the surface. Each has a troubled link to the man whose arrival and sudden disappearance once set the school on edge. And each had a reason to want him gone. As Cassidy unwittingly edges closer to the truth, unspoken words, locked away for decades, will force Ian and Andi to question what they really know - about themselves, about the past, and about a marriage built on a murderous lie.

Loved it!

Great, interesting story and good characters! I was hooked within 5 minutes. Liked how the author moved back and forth in the past and current day.

Lackluster, Lazy Ending

The premise is the book seemed promising however after so much build up the story fell in on itself. There seemed to be so many anti climatic points that altogether this proved to be incredibly underwhelming. The first main character Andi was incredibly unlikable and second main character Ian was pitiful. I found him to be completely unbelievable as well. The ending was just that, the end. I actually looked at the timer to see how much longer was left because there were a few unresolved points in the story.
I would suggest this if it is FREE but I wouldn’t waste a credit on this book.

Worth the read if you are not sure what to read next

I liked the story a lot, but I don’t think it left me feeling shaken up with any plot twist like most of the books I read. It was good enough to keep my attention through the book though. My only complaint is on the narrator for Cassidy.

Started slow

When I was almost half way through this book, I almost put it down for good. My thoughts were that it lacked any action. I even thought the "romance" portions were rather lame at best. Since I'd paid for the book and audio, I thought I'd just keep going and if it didn't get brtter, I'd skip to the end and call it done.
It got better.
Although I do believe it meandered more than necessary. The mystery unfolded and the romances and relationships came to light, the good, the bad, the ugly and the tenderness.
All in all I enjoyed reading this book. The narration was excellent.

Excellent

Usually it isn’t hard to piece together “who done it” in books but this one left me in the dark until the very end. It was a great piece that kept me so hooked I finished the entire book in only two and a half days.

*Plus, as a St. Louis local who also spent time living in Bloomington, I got a kick out of the setting of the novel.

Terrible narration

The book may have held my attention better had it not been for the terrible Voice’s reading it! Will definitely pay more attention to who’s narrating the next.

The Victim Blaming in This is Garbage

The husband in this book is a douche. If she were a real life person I'd tell her to leave immediately. Your private sexual dating history does not belong to your significant other and they are not "owed" an explanation for anything. The fact that her husband acts like her history is some dirty secret she should be ashamed of is disgusting. Message to any girl who may be reading this: YOUR LIFE PRIOR (or in between in this case) IS NO BUSINESS OF YOUR CURRENT SIGNIFICANT OTHER. IF THEY GASLIGHT YOU INTO BELIEVING YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR ANY CHOICES YOU MADE OR YOUR SEXUAL HISTORY THEN THEY ARE A BAD PARTNER. This book sends a bad message wrapped up in a garbage mystery. I'll take my credit back please.
