Great Short Cozy Mystery

This is a great audiobook number 4 in the series but could be a great stand alone. She has interesting believable and interesting characters. Rachel Carr does a great job with the Narration. She keeps your interest. This is a short clean cozy mystery with no sex, gore or foul language. The character development is good for a cozy mystery you can do as a family, your teens or for a slumber party. Hope Hadley is an amateur sleuth, after her acting job as a detective was canceled she started being an amateur sleuth. There is humor along with murder in this book. Her brother is a detective, together they interviewed suspects to try to find the murderer of the poolman found in the bottom of the pool. There are some funny scenes that have an alligator in them .I enjoyed this book

Drowning in Deceit Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery Serie

The morning starts with excitement for Hope. She's awakened by the barking of her dog. When she gets downstairs to check it out she finds an alligator trying to get in through the doggie door. After a semi panicked call to her brother, who is shocked speechless, he tells her he'll handle it. After the situation is taken care of, Hope waits for the pool man to come clean her pool. She waits and waits. When he doesn't show, she continues on with her job. Then her brother calls to let her know that there is another murder...her pool man. Now Hope and Joe are on the prowl for the murderer and come across more than they bargained for.
Fantastic audio talents of Rachel Carr as she brings the characters to life.
Fantastic audio and story.

A Fun Chapter in a Warm and Fuzzy Series

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

If you want a mystery that will make you smile without taxing your overworked brain, you'll find this story just what the doctor prescribed... This mystery's solving tale of two siblings bent on uncovering the truth behind the murder of a pool boy, has plenty of moments when you'll find yourself smiling, right from the beginning when an alligator decides that living in a home it's much more to his taste than living in Florida's swampy waters and that a pool will do very well for his daily swim.
Short but sweet, this story will lighten up your day.
The narration is just that, not and acting interpretation. If you like to be read to, then this is for you.

ENJOYABLE!

DROWNING IN DECEIT is the fourth book in the Hope Hadley Cozy Mysteries series. They can be read in any order.

I love the simplicity of these cozy mysteries and believe them to be the perfect way to introduce the genre to a preteen.

In this particular one, the first three chapters, which have nothing to do with the murder, are the most fun. I was reminded of a meme I saw years ago, it was a picture of a gator, about 8ft long, clawing at a house door. As I remember, the caption said, “Why we lock our doors in Florida.”

Besides Hope, her brother Joe, and her boyfriend, the supporting characters are whimsical and outlandishly cartoonish making it almost spoof-like.

Don’t take it seriously. Relax and enjoy. Yes. That’s the word – enjoy. There is no stress here.

Narration: Rachel Carr is still rushing her reading. She needs to slow down and enjoy the story as well! On the other hand, she has a beautiful, clear voice with wonderful pronunciation.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Drowning in Deceit

This series keeps changing things up. Each book in the series is still quite different. I don't think Hope Hadley has quite found her grove yet since leaving Hollywood CA. The opening scene is quite fun when an alligator is trying to come in though the doggie door (who in Florida has a doggie door, for this reason lol). However it seems Hope keeps repeating herself about the alligator wrangles not having anything with them. And she seems to have lost her sense of humor too, especially at the end when her boyfriend bring over a new float for the pool.
The narration is nice, but it did seem to drag on a bit in spots I ended up having to speed this one up so it was not dragging on.

Fast paced

I love this book. This is the first book in the series i have read. Even though it tis number 4, i had not problem connecting with the story line. I hoped to read/listen to the first 3 and the ones after this book. The story line was great, loved the characters. The opening scene with the alligator was great. The only negative thing i can say about the book is it is too short. Wish it was longer. Loved it. I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm ready for Book 5!

Drowning in Deceit is Book 4 in the Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery Series by Meredith Potts, narrated by Rachel Carr. I started with Book 1 and haven't looked back; I have really enjoyed listening to each of these short audiobooks, and I can't wait for Book 5 to be released on audio! It is fun to get to know the characters and watch them change over time. Even though this is a series, the books can be read in any order. Each one is complete in the sense that the mystery/case is solved within the pages of the book, leaving the reader with NO cliffhangers (Thank you!!). What I originally thought would be a turn-off has, instead, ended up being my favorite feature...the length! It's what has kept me running back for the next in series. I am not a huge fan of super long books, and I generally do not listen to many short ones, either. Most of my Audible library is filled with books that fall between 7-12 hours. Never did I expect audiobooks of 1-3 hours to be so much fun to listen to!

I have to admit that I am the queen of the snooze button. I am horrible when it comes to waking up...I have 9 alarms set, and I hit the snooze mutliple times on all of them. I can't even believe I am admitting that, but no one is perfect, right? One morning while getting ready for work, I decided to continue listening to where I had left off the night before in Book 1. Before leaving home, I was able to finish the book. I noticed that day I was in a happier mood...no joke, I think it was because I left my house smiling. I love the clever premise of this series: Hollywood actress, Hope Hadley, returns home to FL after her show (in which she played a detective) is cancelled. It's only natural Hope puts those sleuthing skills to work...and, thus, the adventure begins! Narrator Rachel Carr does a wondeful job in playing main character Hope Hadley! She is funny, engaging, and makes my listening experience that much more enjoyable. Well, the next morning when my alarm went off, I jumped up (yes...no snooze button today!), downloaded Book 2, and listened while I got ready. After having another great day at work, I knew I had to make the rest of this series part of my daily routine! Who knew Hope Hadley would be the answer I'd been searching for?! Yay!

Meredith Potts and Rachel Carr, thank you for putting a little pep in my step each morning and keeping a smile on my face all day long. I am anxiously awaiting Book 5's release on audio....PLEASE say this is not the end! :-) Waking up each morning to Hope and Joe solving their latest case has helped to brighten my mood and set the tone on a positive note for the day...not to mention, the snooze button on my alarm clock has probably enjoyed the time off. :-) I recommend Drowning in Deceit: Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery, Book 4 to those who enjoy cozies, humorous cases, and good clean fun in all under a few hours.

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)

Brother/sister duo at it again!

I really enjoy this series because it’s lighthearted & fun, but also puts together a good plot & mystery! In this book you see Hope working to solve a murder alongside her brother who is a cop. I really enjoy their dynamic, because they both have different methods when interrogating suspects. They do a little bit of “good cop/bad cop” and play off of each other really well! A short listen, but perfect for a cozy night in!
