Some things are meant to be said once; other things are meant to be repeated. Most things are too retractable to designate the source. “Don’t quote me on that” is a phrase that implies blame is inevitable. “Don’t quote me on that” is a request not to be held liable for the entirety of an intellectual thought. This commonly used phrase exists because brash perspective needs protecting to allow space for what needs to be spoken while leaving the source out of the outcome.
