Book one in the magnificent Empire Trilogy by best-selling authors Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts.
Enter the mysterious and exotic world of Kelewan.… Mara, the youngest child of the ancient and noble Acoma family, is about to take her pledge of servitude to the goddess Lashima when the ceremony is disrupted by news of her father and brother's deaths in battle.
Despite her grief, as the only surviving member of her house, Mara must now take up the mantles of Ruling Lady. But she soon discovers betrayal at the heart of her family's loss, and the Acoma's enemies have brought her house to the brink of utter destruction.
Mara, an inexperienced political player, must draw on all her wit, intelligence, and cunning to navigate the ruthless Game of the Council, regain the honour of House Acoma and secure the future of her family. But with assassins waiting around every corner, it might take everything Mara has simply to survive.
Daughter of the Empire is the magnificent first book in The Empire Trilogy by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts.

Those who loved Daenerys Targaryen will love Mara
I read the book when I was a teenager when it was published way before the game of thrones. Not your usual sword and sorcery it is full of political intrigue, dynastic clashes and murder set in a world of magic and exoticness. If you like strong yet vulnerable women pick this book.

An all time Favourite
This is one of the few books in an extensive library that holds my attention so keenly that time passes unnoticed, the narration is superb, a true match made in heaven with the story, most audible narrators get at least a few words mispronounced which jars you out of the story, but not with this book. I’ve loved Mara’s story from when I first read it so many years ago and I’ve fallen in love all over again hearing it read aloud. Truly worth a five star rating.

Epic opening to a masterful trilogy
Daughter of the empire is the first book in the Empire trilogy by Janny Wurts and Raymond E Feist, two epic writers in my view.
Mara, aged 17, must take over as ruling lady of the Acoma after her father and brother are killed in battle. In a world where honour, tradition, and playing the game of the council are ripe, she must avert assassination attempts, make political choices, and outmanoeuvre her enemies to not only avenge her family, but to ensure the survival of house Acoma.
This was a masterful story, written with each part being relevant in some way. Each chapter unravels the plot as Mara climbs the political ladder and thwarts her enemies by outwitting them. The characters are interesting, and they develop well throughout the story. I got quite attached to the main character, Mara. I was with her during her journey, experiencing everything she did, and love how she grows in the story. I particularly enjoyed how she goes against the traditional ways to make newer and better ways. In addition, I enjoyed how a woman, in the fictional world of Kelewan, can be more than the men they are meant to worship. The authors are absolute legends, and this is probably one of my favourites among their work.
The narrator did a fantastic job. Her intonation, tempo, style, and energy made the story entertaining and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed her performance.
I highly recommend this epic story and trilogy.

A thrilling tale
The narrator performed excellently, with a rhythm and cadence that was most satisfying.
The plot and writing were also great, and I cannot wait to start on the next volume.

loved books,love autiobook
the story is as good as the first time. since mara is female it is a welcome change for female readers in the whole riftwar saga. the whole riftwar saga books by raymond are the best I ever read and THESE are my favourites because it is catching with more politic game than war (there is also war but not in this book...later). of course, give it a few chapters to enter kelewan!
she speaks in a gentle voice. though she changes voices for men/women and shouts a little if someone shouts,it does not wake you up when you listened in bed...(like dobby or mr vernon in harry potter :/ ).
buy it -if you enjoy english 🤗
