Description

The epic conclusion to the internationally best-selling Nevernight Chronicle series from New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff.

The greatest games in Godsgrave’s history have ended with the most audacious murders in the history of the Itreyan Republic. Mia Corvere, gladiatii and escaped slave and infamous assassin, is on the run. Pursued by Blades of the Red Church and soldiers of the Luminatii legion, she may never escape the City of Bridges and Bones alive. Her mentor Mercurio is now in the clutches of her enemies. Her own family wishes her dead. And her nemesis, Consul Julius Scaeva, stands but a breath from total dominance over the Republic.

But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen, and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Truedark approaches. Night is falling on the Republic for perhaps the final time. Can Mia survive in a world where even daylight must die?

New York Times and internationally best-selling author Jay Kristoff’s writing has been praised by critics and fans alike and has won many awards, including four Aurealis Awards, an ABIA, and David Gemmell Morningstar and Legend awards.

Great Read but had issues

In the final installment, the story lived up to it's theme. There were plenty of twists, turns, heroics, and fighting. I did not like all of the scenes/ending but that was because I favored one character over another and they got screwed. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth for Mia. I couldn't understand her actions. Still don't. This was still a good read or listen really since I AudioBooked it. The AB had issues- very apparent voice-overs, repeated passages, and towards the end some of the voices were different. Overall however, I feel like Holter Graham did a great job. His delivery of the story really got me into it!

Kinda disappointed

I feel like the story is a step down from the second book. The ending as huge of a scale it was is underwhelming and felt like an episode of dragon ball z or something similar. The constant 4th wall breaking about the foot notes was annoying. You can tell the author was really mad about people not liking the foot notes in the previous books. At one point he literally says "if you don't like the foot notes f#@k you. How about you write a book since you're an expert of literature". I didn't mind the foot notes at all till he kept pointing them out for a joke that got old the first time. Speaking of humor,I didn't find myself laughing like I did with previous books. None of the jokes were hitting.

I had a hard time enjoying most of the cast with the exception of a few(cloud was great). Ashlyn turn from a fun, independent, smart mouth assassin to a petty love sick puppy. Her whole character now is being Mia's girlfriend and never being anything else. A complete downgrade, which sucks since she was my favorite in the first two books. The sex scenes also overstay their welcome. Don't want to get into huge spoilers, but I do admit near the start of the book there are some great twist and turns with decent character development at the halfway point with some hyped action scenes sprinkled throughout. Overall Darkdawn is a disappointment especially by being the last book in the series. Audio book wise, the reader did a nice performance. His male voices were limited and there were a couple of times were he changed a character voice for a chapter or mix them up,but not bad.

Whisper narration annoying

The story was good the normal narration was good. The whispering characters were so annoying it made my teeth itch. The producer gets negative stars for that choice. The narrator I’m sure did what he was instructed to do. REALLY REALLY BAD TECHNIQUE especially for long sections of narration!!!!

Pretty good ending to a great series. (No spoilers)

What can I say… Book 2 was so good it set an almost impossible bar. This was a good solid ending to a great series. Though I confess to being a little disappointed with the predictable, somewhat anticlimactic ending, it was nevertheless a satisfying end that answered most of your questions.

Darkdawn was probably on par with Nevernight, which was a great book. Godsgrave was just such a masterful nail-biter cliffhanger, whereas Darkdawn lost a bit of steam by the end of it.

Go into it with slightly lower expectations and you will probably love it. Expect it to top Godsgrave, and you might be disappointed.

That being said, if you liked the first two books you’d have to be an idiot not to read the third. Well worth the time – Just the ending was a bit blah. I confess I stayed up half the night listening to the end of Godsgrave, and I fell asleep thirty minutes before the end of this book.

If you liked this series I highly recommend The Res Sister by Mark Lawrence. Everything he’s written has been superb, but the parallels between the ancestor trilogy and nevernight are crazy. Equally enjoyable series, though I find Lawrence’s writing style to be far superior.

good storytelling from book 1 to the end of 3

great storytelling especially by the narrator does a great job with the voices and keeping everything fluent, from what I gather these books were written during a time when Spartacus blood and Sand Spartacus on HBO was prevalent which :SPOILERS:--> book 3 leaves off with book 2 and I believe if read back in 2010 to 2012 during the HBO Spartacus shows I mean they literally have someone called Gannicus in the book that is a soldier and is basically no one sword of I'm not going to toilet for everybody but, it has a lot of substance lull's in the storytelling where it gets bogged down for no apparent reason and the character build up of the characters in the prior book they should have evolved in book 2. still if you read book 1 and 2 and want to finish the Saga and it has other apparent things you will notice the only thing I can really say is the writer really loved Spartacus and Riddick which is probably where he got the idea of the landscape but nonetheless great storytelling and writing and like I said the narrator give the character's life and makes them tangible for me since I already read book 1 and book 2 and soon as I got into look to this was not my cup of tea and I wanted to sit here and at least hear the ending but what really makes us a very good Saga and book is the storytelling and how everything comes full circle or to a head, and please I am not bashing the author at all they did a great job and it was unique in about 75% of the writing but like I said it leans towards stuff when I used to watch TV and I caught on pretty quick and there are parts of the story that makes the characters of I don't know what you want to call it Guild of Assassins or what not, how it is presented you can close your eyes and listen as the narrator brings the writing to life like one of the characters going down a hall in darkness impact sing with of perfume and subtle movements of someone else moving in pure Darkness. for anyone liking these books listen to the sample chapters but I would definitely put this on a top 100 Saga to read all three books thank you for your time. sorry no punctuation hands are numb have to use speech to text. cheers hopefully I did not spoil this book for anybody or the whole Saga because it is a good listen and read if you actually buy the books, what really makes this whole world come to life is the narrator because there is some fourth-wall-breaking and it is awesome cheers again.

Well, at least the narrator's performance was good

I made it to book 3 before being unable to continue. What a shame the story had become.

Simply Amazing, Gentlefriends

This was awesome ending to an incredible trilogy! I’m a bit sad that it’s over, but I’m glad that we got an incredible finish to a wonderful story! Never flinch, never fear, and never forget!

full circle ending, and yet I didn't see it coming

in the end, I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish it had been Tric, not Ashlinn. that is the only critic I have for the series as a whole. but otherwise, AWESOME.
I've read Sarah J Maas's chronicles, both Throne Of Glass and A Court of Thorns & 🌹 and until now no other author had touched the love, respect, and admiration i had for the protagonists. Until now.
Well done Jay Kristoff. you're officially a fav!!

Darkdawn

The Nevernight Chronicles, Book Three: Darkdawn || Ratings: Overall: 5/5 stars. Performance: 4/5 stars. Story: 5/5 stars.

Review: There are two things about these books, I think. The first thing is you had to have paid attention to the first book and remember that the general ending was given away. The second thing is that (once again, this is my opinion) you have to understand that Jay Kristoff is the kind of person who is very sarcastic and bold and knows it.

This series has a lot of things said about it and, of course, everyone's opinions are valid as everyone has different tastes. But I feel like if those two things were more understood, especially in this series, it would maybe lead to less disappointment or aggravation. Then again, maybe not.

I loved this book! Just like the first two, I felt it was five star worthy. I expected the general ending, but it was the journey and then the details that hooked me, made me laugh and sob and get angry, and just get totally invested in this series. There’s a theme of pretentiousness, “unrealistic” fighting, dramatic explicit scenes, and more throughout this series and I personally LOVE those sorts of things when they are done right. For me, there is a difference between a book feeling pretentious in an annoying, jerky way and an author purposely working that into this story. And personally? I felt that Kristoff worked a lot of that in on purpose because it felt so natural to the story.

The characters were amazing and my love for Mia never wavers. The way the story came together in the end was so beautiful and well thought out, knitting loose ends and questions together well. I won’t say much more so I don’t spoil anything, but I felt that this book was absolutely amazing! A perfect, stunning end to an amazing book series. I was not at all disappointed and this is easily one of my favorite series!

Genius

The third book had it all. tears, heartbreack, adrenalin, revenge, love. I felt it all and I am so satisfied with the end even though I am sad there won't be more to hear from the crow. the author orchestrated a grand finale and created a masterppice. the speaker gives it the perfect edge of humor, empathy and excitement. I loved it, all of the books should be read/ heard by fantasylovers. Only important information: if you'r not all grown up it might be right to wait a bit. lots of swearing and explicit description (which I loved but still might be a little much for children and most of the teens)
